ALICE program arms children with cans & books to fight off classroom intruders

You’ve likely heard of students bringing canned food to school for food drives, but have you ever heard of bringing a canned food item to school for safety?

A letter sent to parents of students at one school in Chambers County requested just that — students were asked to arm themselves with an eight ounce canned food item.

Though it sounds odd, administrators believe the practice could catch potential intruders off guard, possibly even knocking him or her out until police arrive.

This is what the brightest people in our school system thought of? Is there any question we are doomed?

Do Guns Protect Us? Violence Policy Center Says No

. . . But Lott's one-sided approach not only forces him to make arguments not supported by facts, but also to ignore data which, at the very least, throws the whole notion of CCW for personal defense up for grabs. I am referring here to the ongoing project of the Violence Policy Center to track killings by concealed-carry licensees, which shows that more than 600 people with CCW killed themselves or others since 2007. The study, of course, is based on media reports that have come to the attention of the VPC, so it is necessarily incomplete, and I suspect that in the suicide category, which comprises slightly less than one-third of the shootings, the real number is substantially higher than what is estimated to have really occurred. . . .

Guns... They're for family protection, hunting dangerous or delicious animals, and keeping the King of England out of your face.

Two parents are recovering after being shot by their 3-year-old son.

Police say their initial investigation leads them to believe it was an accident, but they are waiting to do a safe house interview with the boy and the woman's 2-year-old daughter before deciding if anyone should be charged.

An interview with a 3-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl. I'd buy tickets to that.

Just another day in gun loving America....

Five people were shot and killed and two others were shot and wounded yesterday in Douglasville, GA (link); three people were shot and wounded in a Pittsburgh area mall yesterday (link); a man was shot and killed in a road rage incident in Milwaukee last night, and his passenger was shot and wounded (link); one person was shot and killed and another shot and wounded in southeast Memphis, TN last night (link); a man was shot and killed and a woman was shot and wounded before the gunman shot and killed himself on Friday in Wilmington, NC, in what police say was a murder-suicide that started over a property dispute (link).
