Now the Entire EU Is Urged to Adopt a Basic Income

I am not sure if the proposals I discussed are libertarian.
I just think our health care system is so screwed up now... the best way that I can think of is vouchers. Let the insurance companies compete for them. Then for fun I would let the Federal Reserve deposit the voucher money in the insurance companies accounts. That way its off budget.
Like the man said, what do you have to lose?

I actually like the idea of Universal Basic Income. I know that might get me ON INGOREE!!!1 from Scat, but hear me out.

If you're going to have a whole bunch of entitlement programs, then the efficient way of doing it is to provide one payment to everyone and that's it. You save billions of dollars in administration that way, and people no longer sit on their ass because they can't go get a minimum wage job without losing their benefits. In fact, the whole minimum wage discussion goes out the window, as now someone can survive on it with additional basic income.

Lots of pros.

I used to think it was commie BS too until Bernie pretty much explained it as you did w/the numbers, then it made perfect sense.

basic income and catestrophic health care and school vouchers and the left in the US would only be left with identity politics.

That is a very good point there. UBI will eventually happen, it's just the way that ideas are floated into the mainstream press for awhile before it picks up momentum. Not at all unlike "zero interest rates" (ZIRP) and eventually NIRP in certain locales. QE and other assorted programs also were met with incredulity initially, but eventually became "mainstream".

I also believe the UBI will be the olive branch to the "hoi polloi" if/when these markets continue this ramp and inflation continues to mount. The "great divide" between asset holders and wage earners will make it a political necessity at some point.

It's an old idea floated by Milton Friedman. The whole key is non means tested UBI in lieu of all other social benefits. To work in USA it would have to at least exceed the average social security benefits. Then the big fight trying to explain it is also in place of food stamps and welfare and medicaid and medicare. Would be almost impossible to pass in it's pure form. Most likely we would end up with an even more expensive hybrid.

I agree. Not yet, tho.

With AI displacing 30-50% of the workforce in 10 years, yes, a basic guaranteed income will be required.

AI is the end game of economics. So long as we all benefit, AI relieves the necessity of work....

Yeah, it's pretty hard to argue the numbers. Make no mistake, I am a fiscal conservative, and I don't like the idea of large entitlement programs. But given that they are not going away, we might as well do them efficiently. Those on the left should like basic income because of what it offers, those on the right should like it for it's efficiency. Win/win. One of the few.

Wow, 50% of the workforce in 10 years, eh? Is that what you heard on Alex Jones? I think you might find that to be a tad over estimated.
