Now the Entire EU Is Urged to Adopt a Basic Income

I actually like the idea of Universal Basic Income. I know that might get me ON INGOREE!!!1 from Scat, but hear me out.

If you're going to have a whole bunch of entitlement programs, then the efficient way of doing it is to provide one payment to everyone and that's it. You save billions of dollars in administration that way, and people no longer sit on their ass because they can't go get a minimum wage job without losing their benefits. In fact, the whole minimum wage discussion goes out the window, as now someone can survive on it with additional basic income.

Lots of pros.

Pick a number, any number 800 euros/mo and all that does is change the tune to, 800 a month? Nobody can live on that! Step in the left promising yet another raise in the UBI and probably a small tax on something else to pay for it.
UBI and also a Universal Fair tax to replace all others can only be implemented by a far right wing heartless government, otherwise it just becomes another step on the road to serfdom.
But I will agree, we have it just backwards. Everybody should get Social Security until the age 65 and then they better hope they have made good use of it.

No one can live on 800 euros, but the thing is, they can go to work and not lose that. It becomes supplemental and there are no restrictions to get it. People become productive and get jobs because they no longer have to worry about losing benefits.

No one can live on min wage, yet that is their argument. You are talking male logic to a group of people that collectively have the hormones of a woman.

I'm just talking to you guys. I'm not in office. :)

basic income and catestrophic health care and school vouchers and the left in the US would only be left with identity politics.

whoops, I shoulda voted libertarian, maybe next time, that's why I say it takes a certain cold heart to administer something as simple as UBI. Looks like we may get some progress on school choice in the next 4 years. My healthcare bill has a means tested deductible, I'll pay for everything else. Like 20% of your annual income.

I am not sure if the proposals I discussed are libertarian.
I just think our health care system is so screwed up now... the best way that I can think of is vouchers. Let the insurance companies compete for them. Then for fun I would let the Federal Reserve deposit the voucher money in the insurance companies accounts. That way its off budget.
