North Carolina Lottery Winner - Single Mother of 4 on Public Assistance

you don't buy a ticket, you buy a dream. You look at that ticket and think, "Now, just exactly would I do with 50 Million? (already pruned for taxes.)

In my case it don't last long. I love my children but they can't handle serious money. And then there is FDIC protection. And broker specific risk. And trusts and wills and lawyers, and I don't know what all. Plus, you have to sign if you win the jackpot that you will attend sponser's investor meetings (usually on a private boat.) "Well hell yeah! I have 50 million dollars! I can invest a measly one million in a limited partnership."

Good for her. Unfortunately how many others waste money on this all the time. Or casinos, etc.
I don't know, do the math. Starting on Jan 1 2000, buying two 1$ tickets each week, or buying 2$ worth of SPY each week. After expenses and the few five dollar winners, my guess is the two ticket a week dreamer doesn't come out that far behind the $2/week SPY investor.
