No, taxpayers would have 4 or 5 million more to educate, house, provide food for, etc.

That's not quite true. We, meaning mostly white Anglo Saxons, did not steal the country. We waged war against the inhabitants and took the country. The inhabitants were Indians and what now passes for a few Mexicans. Spoils do go to the victor. Just how it is.
We are now in the process of surrendering the country back to the Mexicans. Most of the Indians got screwed royally, but a few did cash in on some retributions in the form of casino money. Mexicans are the big winner though.
The difference between the white mans victory back then, and what's happening now, is at least the Indians put up a fight. Whitey is now simply running up the white flag and surrendering to the Mexicans without a fight. Leftist guilt has permeated the country. Ain't it a bitch. Oh well, we had a pretty decent run all things considered.

Almost 1/2 pay no income taxes.

But the upper 50% of the wage earners pay @97% of all tax collections, and the lower ones only @3%. The upper of the upper pay a disproportionate share of that too, the Top 1% of earners = 37% of taxes paid, the next bracket 2-5% accounts for another 20%. So about 57% paid by the top 5%.
