I just want to make a few brief comments. Whereas both socialism and capitalism are fairly well defined concepts most modern governments, particularly in Western Europe, and North America, but elsewhere too, are blends of socialism and capitalism. The best measures of success of modern nations is of course debatable. However, by the measures agreed upon by the majority of people living in countries with a mix of capitalism and socialism, the countries of western Europe, Canada and the British isles do better than countries with either a much greater socialism component or a much greater capitalism component; yet even at the extremes there is significant variation. As examples of the extremes we could arbitrarily select say Venezuela at one extreme and the United States at another. Most observers would say the countries lying between these two extremes are doing the best by standard measures.
