New Jersey banning PAPER bags, I'm confused...

There's a few issues...

Its destroying the environment, it consumes too much energy to produce or both.

Most consumers that are into recycle typically only look at what it does to the environment. Rarely do they look at what (e.g. energy, water) that it took to create the item.

Paper bags consumes more non-renewable energy than plastic or any other product and sometimes 3 - 5x more if there are colour (logos, instructions) on the bag.

The other day I went for a very long hiking and jogging in the forest...I was shocked to find disposable face masks along a 5 mile trail.

How hard is it for someone to put it in their pocket ?

People just do not care nor understand the dangers to the environment nor do they understand / underestimate the dangers to wildlife.

So New Jersey wants you to bring your own recyclable multi-use bags to grocery stores to put your food in.

Right when we are in the middle of a health pandemic and the CDC stated directly that you should not being multi-use grocery bags to food stores - because it spreads COVID. And most grocery stores have banned people from bringing their own bags -- requiring new plastic or paper bags to be used with every visit.

Are the politicians in New Jersey nuts? Are they really pushing this nonsense in the middle of a pandemic?

New Jersey wants to kill as many people as New York did. They like to keep up with NY.

Arent those bags made from plastic for the most part?

And if they are made from recyclable materials...give them away for free like you did the plastic and paper bags so people can use them.

Bags dont spread covid.

Accordingly to friends in the New York area (not New Jersey)...people are concerned that the store clerks and the people bagging your groceries are not using a hand sanitizer between each customer.

Here in Québec, just yesterday at the grocery store...there were about 10 people in front of me.

Everybody was wearing face masks and properly social distancing. In contrast, I watched to cashier clerk not once using hand sanitizer after scanning the groceries hand to here by each customer.
  • He even shook hands with three different customers.
Same with the bagger putting groceries in plastic bag, paper bag (some people had their own paper bags - big ones) and reusable cloth bag. Here's the thing, they have hand sanitizer for their own personal use next to the register.

The outbreaks that have occurred in the grocery stores here in Québec, Canada were not by the customer...it was either a cashier or the bagger that was Covid-19 positive.

I myself bring my own bags, bag my own groceries and I tell the bagger to step 6 feet away from me. I've been in the hospital once from a deadly airborne disease back in 2016 that nobody could figure out how I caught the infection.

Today, in grocery stores during a Pandemic...I tell the bagger...

Back the fuck away.

My son came up with a simple solution - After they scan my groceries. My groceries are put back into my grocery cart...not the bagger. Go out to my car and then put the groceries in 3 - 4 empty milk crates for easy carry when we arrive back home.

No Paper Bags...No Plastic Bags...No Reusable Cloth Bags
