I don't know the details specific to Austria but I do not that people in Austria are in fact leaving their homes to go to work, shopping or other activities (e.g. protesting).

• As someone else stated...the world scientists and Covid research labs are still testing Omicron plus doing genomic sequencing of earlier positive Covid cases. I wouldn't be surprised if it's been here before restrictions in countries like Austria were imposed.

In fact, I don't think the restrictions in Austria have anything to do with Omicron when it's all about the Delta Variant / Hospital Capacity levels ?

So have they traced their outbreak to an unvaccinated person? I’d say there’s more vaccinated people flying than unvaccinated and since even the makers are acknowledging that omicron may elude current vaccines the odds are in favor of fully vaccinated spread.

Your post proves nothing.

They have traced it back to one not vaccinated person in one country but that doesn't imply the person is n = 1 person. Thus, it could have been a vaccinated person with mild symptoms that's the actual n = 1 person who then infected a not vaccinated person.

As stated, it will be a few weeks before world laboratories know the factual details about Omicron.

I just want to be clear that your claim that you have to be vaccinated to fly to Austria is completely false.

Seeing that the state of California actually tests for variants. And DeSantis in Florida has stopped the state from testing for variants or announcing variant numbers -- it is not surprising that a state outside of Florida announced finding the first Omicron case. The sad reality is that Omicron could have been circling in Florida for weeks and the state would have no clue about it thanks to DeSantis.

As noted many times before DeSantis stopped testing or reporting data for variants in Florida last spring. I posted plenty of articles on this in the other thread. The newspapers even sued DeSantis to get the variant data collected by the state prior the state even suspending even testing for variants this summer (You know lots of Delta made DeSantis look bad).

The only source for variant data in Florida now are surveillance audits done by private testing labs which process Covid PCR tests for the state. These labs report their information to the federal government since Florida does not take it in or support it.
