Never in a million years could have seen this coming.

Of course - if you are one who believes that the world really is dog eat dog, it is every person for them selves and that the aim of the game is do so then that is fine also.

What you lefties dont understand is that the world is dog eat dog regardless of the number of government programs you put in place, the only thing you guys manage to do is change the dog who is being eaten.

Or, put another way, mobs of Marleys and only a handful of Fezziwigs.

Yep. Capitalism alone is not sufficient. Insufficient Socialism is also not sufficient.

Marxism sees the proletariat and bourgeoisie . . . as occupying conflicting positions, since workers automatically wish their wages to be as high as possible, while owners and their proxies wish for wages . . . to be as low as possible. Wikipedia

If you're talking about pure capitalism, perhaps. But we don't have that anymore than we have pure democracy. What we have -- or are in the process of developing -- is a Dickensian-style capitalism that subverts the ideal.

And yet you gleefully cheer for a party that supports more Bureaucracy, and more meritocracy. In your mind the way to solve authoritarian government is to give government even more authority. See stockholm syndrome

Clearly you haven't understood anything I've written.

But you'll forgive me if I don't start over.

Db has trouble coping when his liberal fantasies are shattered by hard facts. This reminds me of the other thread where he was pompously lecturing a black man about life in the black community.

The one constant is that nothing can be expected from anyone in a "victim" class. Liberals have a dictionary of put downs for you if you do. You're "blaming the vicitm", or tweeting Chris Matthews tiresome "racist dog whistle", or you lack "compassion" or perhaps "empathy". Then there's the new one, you're talking from "white privilege." How dare you!

We're not asking that welfare leeches work three jobs or get masters degrees. It would be nice if they at least tried to get jobs, kept their weight under 300 pounds, didn't have four kids with five different men, none of whom contribute a dime of support, didn't commit crimes and took minimal care of the taxpayer provided housing they live in. But no, that's asking WAY TOO MUCH. And all this talk about there being no jobs. How about they are required to put in some community service on city cleanup crews? Most urban landscapes can use some cleanup, grass and weed cutting, trash pickup, etc. Oprah can get by without you for a couple of days.

Liberals would probably call that modern slavery. They don't mind forcing high school kids to "volunteer" but not welfare recipients. No sir, that's out of the question.

And themain thing is, we don't want to stigmatize any 14 year old who is pregnant. If we did, her friends might take note and not get pregnant themselves. Anyway, everything is working out great, so why should we change anything? Just send more money.

Far better to support a government that supports increased corporate power, less democracy and competition and the excesses they will try and get away with if possible?

Stockholm syndrome applies both ways and I would wager corporations sell to you more than the government.

I just read the latest thread of nuke em all and let god sort it out.... and saw you are arguing my point, thanks...
However, the left rarely explores the negative consequences of its policies.

difference is that you are coming from and labeling everyone from a conservative view point without recognizing the right often ignores the negative consequences as well.

You can also lump me in with the lefties if you like - even when I tell you no one who knows me would think I was - it seems anyone who does not agree with someone these days needs to be lumped somewhere because people are too lazy/ignorant or stupid to think beyond names in the first instance.

I would like to start a rant now.... :)

From my own personal experience of business and working in the trading pits - the biggest m..f c..ts who are the first to cry poor when things dont go their way and ask for handouts are those who talk loudest about free markets, competition and belittle anyone else. These are the people with no moral compass and all the BS about might is right, god is on their side, and thinking everyone else is a bleeding heart liberal (or chardonnay socialist) and who would sell their grandmother for a dollar even if she is dead and they just climbed off giving her one as part of a bet. These same people often climbed the corporate ladders and claimed they gave more of their salary to charity than others - at the same time ripping their clients faces off, diddling their taxes and dipping in the public purse with bailouts subsidies and the like while decrying poor societies parasites.
I dont think you are like that. :)

My view at the present is that the politically correct and bureaucracy is a direct result of the faster to market excesses of some of the companies. Its not a chicken or an egg - companies will always outsmart the government who has to play catchup.
The problem with the government is they are not fixing the real problems, instead they try and impose red tape on small businesses - its a rule of the dog eat dog world - eat what you can and not those that feed you. The solution to simply call for smaller government is idiotic in a system that encourages bigger is better for all things.
I would like to see smaller government as well as smaller corporate influence - I guess maybe I side with the underdog as I think thse in the positions of power have a responsibility to exercise that power with justice, fairness and equality.

But as we all get what we want out of the market most folks will vote for those who bark ideas, howl the loudest and provide crap in this dog eat dog world.

So ends the rant as like so many of these arguments its like a friday night social in rural England - boys on the left/right, girls on the right/left of the hall no one talking until someone gets too pissed, starts a fight followed by scandals unwanted pregnancies and more inbreeding. The cycle continues

You don't sound liberal or left to me at all.

The social safety net is 12% of the overall budget.

Wrong, right from the get-go.

You conveniently leave out Social Security and Medicaid/Medicare. Both are party of the social safety net. Together, all social "safety net" programs account for 58% of the total budget.

I know what you're stating is technically correct, but I have trouble with people finding some equivalence between social security and welfare. Social Security, medicare, unemployment insurance are not the same as welfare, public aid and food stamps. The fact that congress embezzled all the money from S.S. is another issue. Fact is, had congress not embezzled all the money we'd be retiring earlier not later, and with increased benefits. Again, the people of this nation are not the problem. It is the criminally corrupt congress and a political system which has people believing their vote actually makes a difference.

I'm not saying SS shouldn't be, or anything like that. I'm simply saying that if we're talking social safety net, you have to include those. If you just want to talk about all welfare/safety net ex SS and MC, then let's do so.
