I´ll post this for my fellow novices. Just got off the line with HELP in TOS.
I was showing a line that I was exposed the QQQ index. Turned out I had a CALENDAR trade a week ago. I tried for the last two hours of expiration FRIDAY to close the CALENDAR, but it would not get closed. I figured they did some kind of cash settlement on the short side.
Blissfully going along, I´ve been clearing my account, this week, so I can start with a couple of fresh strategies should the occasion arise. Anyway, I had this short -100 QQQ showing on my trade positions. It had a small profit, but didn´t know what it was?
Turned out I should have bought back the short side of the CALENDAR spread on expiration Friday a week or so ago. I thought the exchange did that stuff? Apparently not so in an index trade.
So lesson learned; when trading the CALENDAR SPREAD, the expiration week short contracts have to be closed independently, if you are unable to close the spread itself.
Boyooooo! The things I´m learning, no end to it.
