sounding trite doesn't make my prev post false. i'm no expert, nor have i gone out of out of my way to research counter-fundamentalism, but i don't think it's fair to say 'they've' done nothing to root out osama, hamas, iranian pres, bombers or the like. that's simply untrue. muslims fought the taliban, muslims challenge hamas, muslims assist on the pak border, intelligence assets, etc etc ...there are probably innumerable examples of academics etc who don't swim with the tide. and compared to the freedoms of speech, and relative security and gender equality we have in the states, any vocal dissent is incredible under those conditions. seriously, put yourself on the arab street

not sure how you can infer tacit support from information that you don't know, or hasn't reached you. iran is a split country, and i believe there's an overwhelming population of oppressed dissenters. be reasonable... the game of telephone from the arab street through each side's propaganda machine and down to you is a long one

i always felt this president's most dangerous weakness was his binary comprehension of a multivariate situation

most muslims are against osama etc. generally muslims are peaceful people.

You think that people too stupid to punch a damned ballot should have their vote count. If they can't even read enough to mark the ballot they have no right to have a vote counted.

Fred, My 'hood in Chicago like a few cities in the States has a large Islamic population. Like London. Multi-cultural. And yes on the most part they're good people. However most Muslims who emigrate to the U.K. or America are pre-disposed to accepting Western values and culture. Therefore the Muslim guy who owns the bodega on the corner in Brooklyn is not a statistically varied sample of global Islamic tolerance of the West. Just like I have a friend who lives in a Chicago suburb that's home to many millionaire black athletes. I was once bitching about how much crime blacks commit in Chicago's urban core and he replied with a straight face, "well I've got some black neighbors and they don't cause any trouble."
