The point of the riot was ???

I'll answer that: to stop the constitutional job of Congress and the Vice President certifying the free and fair election, that multiple courts (many Republican and some even tRump appointed) and all states Supervisors of Elections concurred with.

It was not to just to protest. Would it have fit your definition of insurrection if Capitol Police shot and killed more "protestors" trying to further access?

And why are dismissive of the deaths in the days after?

Just because your side of the political spectrum decided to piggyback on the riot and hysterically proclaim it as an "insurrection" does not make it one. Just makes them look stupidly opportunistic and apparently backfired on them, as will be evidenced in November.

I am not now or ever a Dem but no longer a Rep although still Conservative.

And for the rule of law and following the constitution.

Mid terms most times go against the party in power.
