Multicharts User Thread

Sam,

Multicharts Ver 4.0 was just released.

I believe that will be the last version prior to "Multicharts Gold" which will track along the Tradestation et al model of a monthly fee.

So my advice is use your 30 day trial and give V4 a good workout, and try to find out what the pricing model is going to be like.

No sense in dropping $ for "old" version which will take a backseat with add-ons/bug fixes if you're going to be paying monthly fee for the "gold"

Use your $ in the most effective manner.

That said V4 is much improved even over 3.x

One thing though and there is post about it in forums. Whenever you do upgrade save your template files prior to installing the upgrades and dont forget to recompile your code in the Editor FIRST.

Comparison charts in NinjaTrader/QuoteTracker/MultiChats

Hi I am exploring the comparison charts feature in NinjaTrader/QuoteTracker/MultiChats .

Appreciate your input , if any of you have experience with this kind of requirement.

My requirement is have the ability to chart comparison between 2 different stocks as shown in this IBM/MSFT example url below.

http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=...=on;ohlcvalues=0;logscale=on;source=undefined

On yahoo chats this is straight forward , I am looking similar features in the above softwares .
The comparisions time window has to be flexible to change while you are viewing the chart.
The comparison can be for 5 minute bars or for end of data ( covering months).

Which of the above software provides this kind of features , which one needs more/less programming
.
Appreciate your input.

Cheers

Thanks very much for the information on how to import data, it helped a lot.
Just curious, does anyone know the relationship between Multicharts and Tradestation? Is Multicharts part of the Tradestation company somehow or is it an independant company?
The subscription or lifetime membership for Multicharts is relatively expensive, does anyone know if there's a less expensive way to get a licence? Perhaps become a Beta tester or maybe there's a discount? I look at what I'll pay for Sierrachart over the next five years and that'll add up to close to the lifetime licence fee for Multicharts anyway.

MultiCharts has no relationship with TradeStation.

MultiCharts is based in Russia.

The Yahoo chart starts with both companies at 0%. I don't think MultiCharts can do that.

But it can do the following:

1. superimpose both companies chart into one chart window, or

2. draw a spread chart of the 2 companies, or

3. plot one company, then plot a 2nd line showing the premium/discount to the 1st plot.

I am a user of Multicharts for 3 years (since the beginning) and use no other software at the moment.

MC was a promising program, but has a serious issue that does not go away: longer term charts create data holes like a Swiss cheese when you load them. Then you have to manually clean the cache etc. for each chart, which takes forever, only to find a new hole the next time you open the chart.

Multichart KNOWS they have this issue (Dennis Globa has been informed several times) but seems either unable or not interested enough to fix it once and for all. (I hope it is the second, that would mean there is at least some hope). When you tell them again and again they just give you lip service and promise it will be taken care of in the next release. Never happens though.

This is a very serious issue, much more serious than the cost of the software or some silly bells and whistles. I know one guy who routinely trades 20 lots in the grains, for him this issue creates a huge opportunity cost of many thousands of dollars per week lost since he can not trust his charts.

I am not yet trading his size, but even for me these issues are costing me enough money to be seriously looking at other programs. I have just about had it.

I am Multichart user, and the easylanguage is quite easy to learn. however i have the problem here. the signal could only trade one symbol in one strategy, however i need 2 or more symbols to analyze and hedge trading in one signal.

does anybody know how to do it?

thanks.

You can use GV (Global Variable) and ADE (All Data Everywhere) to pass values between indicators.

Google for it. There are lots of info on the web.

my question may be more clear like below:

in a signal, i am using 4 symbols as data1, data2, data3 and data4 in a chart. then i need

Buy Symbol1 next bar at market;
Sellshort symbol2 next bar at market;
Buy Symbol3 next bar at market;
Sellshort symbol4 next bar at market;

everything is the normal language, but just add symbol in the order. becasue i need this function for multi-symbol hedging strategy.

thanks

Does anyone know how to merge or rename a futures chart with Multicharts in order to make a continuous contract?

For example, I have the NQZ8 futures contract going back to September. I'd like to rename it to NQH9 or merge it so that I show continuous data going back to September in one chart.

I can do this with Sierrachart. I disconnect from the data feed. Take the December contract data file, rename it to the March 2009 file, then reconnect to the data feed. When I reconnect to the data feed, I see the old data going back to September but new data for March 2009 is being added to it now.
