More things change the more things remain the same

Quote from AK Forty Seven:

Reagan too :cool: .Carter left him a nearly balanced budget and less then a trillion in national debt and he and Bush Sr turned it into record deficits and more then tripled the national debt
Silly of me to forget Reagan, who increased the national debt by about 185% during his tenure in the White House. Just that Bush Jr. actually cut taxes while simultaneously engaging in two wars, something that no leader had ever done in recorded history. Tinkle down and all that. And behold the joyous effect on the national treasury. But, yes, it was Reagan who was the trailblazer who looked deficits in the eye and said, "Yeah, so?"

Are either of you two old enough to remember 1980?

Carter's term was a fiasco and the US was in deep shit, Reagan inherited a mess......... I'm not a fan of Bush's spending either but 9/11 put a damper on everything, the latest debacle is a fault of both parties, it came on Bush's watch yes he's partly to blame, but there's plenty of blame to spread on the other side of the aisle as well. And the problems that put us there have been nothing but continued and increased in Obama's administration.

Deceased spending in a budget that still spends more than it takes in, is not cutting the deficit, it's just slowing down it's exponential growth.

To cut the deficit first you have to balance the budget and this administration couldn't do it even when they had the majority in both houses.

Come to think of it, they couldn't pass any budget let alone one that's balanced ?????

Yes,unfortunately he has expenses like the Bush tax cuts,Bushs wars,Bushs medicare expansion,Bushs growth of government etc to pay for

Its not like Obama came into office with a balanced budget and turned it into trillion dollar deficits and doubled the national debt...like Bush did

Bush Deficits------> Obama made worse
Bush tax cuts------>Obama extended, as well as a whole host of new taxcuts unpaid for
Obama foreign policy--------> an extension of bush's including the exact same exit day on Iraq, a tripling of the drone strikes, upping the troop levels in afghanistan, starting 2 new wars, and keeping guantanamo open
Bush Medicare expansion --------> Obamacare
Bush Growth of Government--------> Obama continues
Bush gives us the patriot act, which was really just an alley oop for Obama to slam the ball home with the NDAA, and strip us of the rest of our rights.

Really there is no discernible difference between the two BUT....

In AK47's eyes:

Bush = Worst President ever
Obama = Best President ever

Classic!! :D

Not old enough to remember 1980 but we had less then a trillion dollar national debt and a small deficit.That all changed when Reagan came to Washington

I am old enough to remember when Bush came to office with a budget surplus and turned it into a trillion dollar deficit and doubled the national debt

I would respond with a "BINGO" but a certain Canadian who can't mind his own business has forbidden it.

Quote from AK Forty Seven:

Keep in mind that Obama kept in place essentially all of the spending increases of the Bush administration, both military and domestic, but did indeed add many billions more spending to what was already out of control.

Unlike Bushs medicare Obamacare is mostly paid for and most Americans will have health ins

If a republican were in office we would still be in Iraq,McCain and Romney both have said so

The growth of gov under Obama is nothing like the growth of gov under Bush

Obama hasn't increased the deficit,government growth etc nearly as much as Bush did

starting 2 new wars

How much did Obamas wars cost in terms of money,US lives lost and injured US troops ?

Obama also promised to cut the deficit in half by the start of his first term.... He is only off by 700 billion dollars on that one.... Conveniently he has also promised that the budget deficit is going to be down to 500 billion dollars..... IN 2018 2 YEARS AFTER HE LEAVES OFFICE :D
