First, back up this statement you made:
I haven't been able to find anything on this. As originally presented, the man had previous weapons offenses he was found to have committed. As stated, this means it is illegal for him to carry or possess a firearm (assuming these offenses came with prison, of course , as most weapons charges do).
Now, if that is untrue and he actually wasn't found to commit previous weapons related offenses, then my opinion changes. But again, all I have is the above information and your other claim. And let's face it, you're not all that reliable around here so I can't just take your word for it.
Ok, I am going to assume you are simply not familiar with firearm laws but want to act like you are. Fine. I suggest you figure out for yourself what a misdemeanor is and a felony, then figure out what the article says the man was found guilty of/ pleaded to in Tennessee. Then figure out if any of those issues would prohibit his ability to possess and carry a firearm under any law.
