Most progressives are basing it on the Christian principles of altruism and caring for the less fortunate. Yes, the ones receiving aid will vote democrat because they want to continue getting aid, duh. But myself and my progressive friends do not need aid and are progressives because of those silly things like sympathy for people and concern for our mother, planet earth.

Yes you are apparently so sympathetic to other people that you want to force someone else to pay extra money to support these other people that is awful generous of you.

Actually I basically just want an adjustment of what we have now, where we force someone else to pay to help the needy. I like to think of it as collective ethics, but if you want to think it is stealing, knock yourself out....please.
You know, there really are needy folks out there. The amount being wasted on leeches is maybe 1 % of the budget.

Actually studies show that it is conservatives who donate the most in terms of their money, time, and even blood compared to liberals. IRS data show that the most generous states in terms of charitable giving are "red" states. The states with the least charitable giving are---that's right: "blue" states particularly those of the northeast.
EXACTLY! Liberals love to talk about how other people need to give but you never see them doing any of the things they claim that others should be doing.
Yes they donate. To the church. Take that out and it's even. They have a few cake sales, think they're being Christian and then cheer when social welfare programs are cut. Hypocrites.
Don't get me wrong though. Churches do some great things for their community, and the best in people and the essence of Christianity comes out there in the form of food pantries, volunteering and such. Hats off to those folks. What I don't understand is how they can then vote for a political party that will cut aid to the needy and favor the wealthy.
