Just checked on Airbnb and they have rooms for 50-100 bucks per day.
 
Inflation. I remember to have stayed in great B&Bs in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand on vacation during college for 7.5 usd or so. Nothing for the discerning, spoiled brats nowadays, a bit rougher on the edges but nothing beat that experience. That was a while ago but imho nothing justifies an airbnb price of 50 or 100 on a remote island where you get a bed, a room, an air fan, and 2 chairs. This world has gone bonkers about pretty much everything. Nowadays young middle class adults are so poorly educated in the western hemisphere and are so well taken care of, financially, that they have no clue how to negotiate prices anymore. That is why some islanders pull the dollar bills out of American tourists' pockets and why the local hookers earn 50 times more than the notary in public.

Couldn't agree more. Every second foreigner in southeast Asia says stuff like "it's so cheap, I don't ask for change". Then act surprised when they get fleeced on everything, even real estate. I stayed with someone like that, flaunting money and saying how cheap it is. The maid's husband literally shook his head when I asked for change for my transport payment.
People like this absolutely ruin it for everyone and often end up dead in the end because the locals expect them to pay for everything they ask for.
 
Someone who understands how things work. Newly rich by large majority are incapable of grasping how they ruin it for everyone. Congratulations, now you can enjoy to pay the same price in Bali for a house or condo than what you pay in California or even more than in Spain on average. Nobody negotiates and researches local markets anymore. It's all FOMO driven.

That is what sets someone apart who earned wealth through his own hands in a respectable and honest manner from someone who inherited wealth or stole it or accumulated it recklessly or unethically. The latter lacks an inherent understanding and appreciation of the value of money. We live in a world of too much money chasing too few good investment opportunities, so the surplus is wasted and spent mindlessly.

Additionally, they should either be employed by and have a contract with a foreign employer, be a partner or shareholder with one that they are doing business activity for or be a freelancer or consultant with contracts with a number of foreign clients. Health insurance with adequate COVID-19 coverage is also required."

Hmm, interesting, wonder if being a trader will qualify? Possibly.

Why would you want to live on Montserrat? I can understand going there for a vacation, but live there? You can only snorkel and hike in the mountains so much - after a while, you will want something else, and there isn't.

I assume you can spend half the year somewhere else. The article does not mention anything about taxes. I assume no or low tax, which is the primary motivation. If not, of course I would not want to do it.

But yes, it is way too far from family and friends, so as usual it will only be a dream.
