Montana plans to cancel unemployment benefits to address ‘severe workforce shortage’

If you pay people so much that there is no purpose in them seeking work..... then the system has completely failed. Especially since people who are not lazy are doing the work and paying for these people to be lazy.

I can support unemployment for a period of time with a requirement that individuals be actively be seeking a job. I can even support that people earn 100% of their employment income during this defined period. This pandemic system where we are paying a majority of people more than they earned as an employee is completely out of control. Especially when there is no final end date in sight for this nonsense.

Your characterization of people being lazy is unfair. How about workers being fed up with not making an honest wage.

We see the middle class shrinking amd many families moving into working poor even though have jobs. There needs to be a better balance in the labor market that wages don’t move people into poverty.

He is/was an employer.

And he is a little narcissistic in that he only views the world from his personal perspective. Empathy otherwise doesn't exist in his world.

Regardless of logic, his opinions will always be congruent with his potentially less than logical, personal feelings.

Well this is where the concept of a minimum wage comes into play. What is an acceptable minimum number of dollars which should be provided for an hour of labor. What are the broader benefits for a worker which should be dictated by the government to be provided. Of course, any interference by the government such as setting a minimum wage is actually a discontinuity in the labor/wage curve.

The question becomes should the government define a minimum wage in order to prevent the abuse of low wage workers -- in the same way child labor laws were created to prevent corporate abuse of children. You can make an argument for the social good that a minimum wage should be set (A point I agree with). The next question becomes with living costs so different across the country -- why should there be one single minimum wage set by the federal government for the entire nation (ignoring state/local setting). The cost of living is very different in San Francisco and rural West Virginia -- why should the federal minimum wage be set to $15 (proposed) in both places.

No matter what the results are of a minimum wage discussion and the "working poor" --- it does not get away from the reality that many people are lazy. If given the choice of staying home with income enough to cover their expenses or working to cover their expenses (even with a greater amount of money) & contributing to society then many people would choose to be lazy & stay home. The pandemic unemployment situation has demonstrated this as a fact. The characterization of some people as lazy is in no way unfair -- it is a verifiable reality.
