MOC on NYSE did not execute

NYSE has clear definitions when MOCs get rejected and when not. This is not a guessing game, if OP submitted the order after 3:45pm then the following applies:

(b) Order Entry After 3:45 p.m.

(i) After the publication of a Mandatory MOC/LOC Imbalance Publication pursuant to paragraph (5) below, Exchange systems will only accept MOC and LOC orders that offset the published imbalance and will reject MOC and LOC orders that do not offset the published imbalance (i.e, on the same side of a Mandatory MOC/LOC Imbalance Publication). Specifically, if the Mandatory MOC/LOC Imbalance Publication shows an excess of sell interest over buy interest, only MOC and LOC orders to buy will be accepted; if the Mandatory MOC/LOC Imbalance Publication show an excess of buy interest over sell interest, only MOC and LOC orders to sell will be accepted.

What's OP's problem, the order wasn't accepted or it was accepted but the trade was not executed ? TWS indicates immediately wether a MOC order is accepted or rejected afaik, but if it was accepted I don't understand why OP is expecting an execution before 4.30pm

agree with you. It is not an issue to seek with the broker but can be figured out by OP him/herself as function of when he/she entered the ordered and whether he received an eventual fill or not as well as an understanding how NYSE handles MOC orders.

Because the market closes at 4pm and MOC orders rarely execute after 4.15pm and I've never seen one execute after 4.30pm.

OP needs to ask IB, that's what I always do. I've yet to had an equity order not execute unless it was cancelled for whatever reason before 4pm.

The MOC order was accepted. It did not fill and was eventually cancelled by IB (around 16:30). As I said, there was a short sale restriction on the stock. My best guess is that was the reason. If anyone knows that short sale restrictions do not apply to auctions, I will ask IB what the reason was. Thank you.

Oh sorry... 4pm of course... Posted twice on this thread already and didn't notice my mistake. I need to get proper sleep - it's not the first time this week I find myself utterly confused on basic stuff :(

What time did you submit the order? Before 345pm? And you are talking About exchange mandated short sale restriction or an IB one?

kiss.

ask the broker if short sale restriction rules apply to moc orders.
if he says no then present your specific information
if he says yes confirm it by calling an exchange.

And why not informing oneself before approaching the broker?

the correct step is to put some minimal effort to see if one can research the answer e.g. 5 minutes. then to the previous enunciated steps.
it was assumed but...
