You miss the point. She addressed a loaded question very undiplomatically. It was rather in-your-face, even though she prefaced it with "no disrespect" or some such. She didn't have to lie. But she didn't have to go polar either. Think bull in a china shop and there you have it. Unless it was critically important to her that she expressed her view in no uncertain terms and in its barest form, she did herself in unnecessarily.

As for your tolerance remark, are you suggesting that her openly expressed intolerance should have been tolerated? Hey, you brought it up.

The standard issue boilerplate answer to this question (accepted by politicians) would be to say you are in favor of civil unions but not gay marriage. She would not even have to lie about her opposition to gay marriage.

US politicians have been answering this question the same way for a while now.

The way she answered, made her look like a nutjob from bible belt.

I have read the opinion of the CA supreme court and I have been subjected to continuing education of the bar on this and I have not seen one person make that argument and I have seen some pretty leftist lawyers advancing the pro gay marriage side.

Are you not able to understand the FACT that same-sex "civil-unions" requires tremendous legal contract expenses to even get close to the same rights conferred upon heterosexual marriage contracts?

Try reading the link that I provided in a previous post, and that FACT should have an impact on you.

Moreover, are you even aware that there are 1,138 federal benefits and protections of marriage that are ONLY available to couples that are allowed to legally marry?

These include Social Security survivor and spousal benefits, the ability to file a joint tax return, immigration rights, and coverage under the Family and Medical Leave Act.

To date, civil unions are not ‘portable,’ meaning that when a couple moves to another state, none of the benefits, rights or responsibilities coming from civil unions move with them.”

Can you imagine losing all of your legal rights (benefits) with your spouse simply because your company transferred you (and your) job to another state?

The above "difference" is pretty basic.
I'm surprised that in all of your education that you claim, you were not able to come across this most significant difference.

So how would you 'counter' the FACT that a same-sex civil union loses their rights as soon as they move out of the State of California because such rights are not "portable"?

I'm listening.
