No, they are not. Independents are just not willing to embrace the dogmatism of either party. They want to make up their mind on the issues, and the economy will be the number one issue in 2012.

I'll give you my honest opinion on why the right, particularly the neo-conservative right is against this. Under Bush, the neo cons knew that Bush was a true believer. He wasn't going to war to be popular or liked or to have books written about him, for better or for worse, this was his cause. This was his moment in life.
Obama believes in no such cause. He did not engage in military action because he thought it was the right thing to do, he did it to curry votes. He did it to gain re-election. He did it to appear strong. He did it to shut up the critics that said he was weak. That he can't protect this country. And that pisses a lot of people off.
Let me put it this way, no one on the left is giving Bush kudos for increasing the funding for the endowment of the arts, which he did! Or for the fact that we gave more Aid to Africa to fight the AIDS epidemic under Bush then any other President. The reason for this is because the left does not believe it was sincere. They believe he did it to curry votes in the house for his war funding.
If Hillary had divorced Bill, she would have gained favor with women.
Many women, especially on the left, hold that against Hillary.
You have to go back to the 2008 campaign and watch what happened, who came out in support of Obama (Oprah, Hollywood) and get the drift that the hard left didn't think Hillary was left enough...which she isn't. She is much more of a moderate democrat.
Additionally, while women may say they think a woman is qualified to be president...a dirty little secret is that women often don't trust other women...because they know how women really think.

I know many did vote because of a misguided remorse about slavery, I just meant it was not on everyone's mind as you suggested. Personally I think voting because you don't want to appear backward, when no one even sees your vote anyway, IS backwards.

That's why I said what i said. The pubs will take the Presidency. The Tea Party will take the Congress( much more dilute) and the pubs will take the Senate. Then they will repeal everything that Obama and Pelosi put into place.

Okay, but you are not exposed to this group day in and day out. Ask your fellow nurses, they will tell they see much more of their co-workers than they see of their real families. Relationships get built. I was perplexed as to why the most competent democrat did not win, and they told me. Very bluntly in fact. Hillary did not know her place. It blew my mind personally, but it is what it is.
