And why should they? Presidents dont drive economies.economies do. Obama also did not drive the economy. He presided over the job as president while the economy was recovering. And it still is. Trump has next to nothing to do with that.

Economic Optimism Index "jumped more than 6 percent in January to 55.1, which is close to the all time high for this measure and marks the 16th consecutive month the index has been in optimistic territory." Some economists, particularly those of the kind who cheered when Barack Obama announced his "shovel ready" infrastructure stimulus, are throwing caution aside asserting the growth we're now seeing in the economy is the result of the former president's economic policies taking root.
Talk about whistling past the graveyard. If Obama had anything to do with the good numbers that, to be fair, started to appear while he was in office, it was only because the markets were starting to price in the fact that no matter what the outcome of the 2016 election, he and his regulatory happy band of progressive central planners would soon be gone.
Take the figures concerning black unemployment, which Patrice Lee Onwuka of the Independent Women's Forum broke down in detail. According to her, "Unemployment for blacks in the U.S. declined from 7.9 percent in December 2016 to 6.8 percent at the end of last year. Nearly half a million (480,000) more black workers are employed compared to one year ago."
"This is a significant achievement. It's been 17 years since the unemployment rate for blacks hit its previous lowest record rate of 7 percent," she wrote. "Black women, who enjoy the highest labor participation rates among women in the labor force, made great strides as well. Some 246,000 black women gained jobs over the past year. The unemployment rate among black women fell from 7 percent to 5.8 percent. That's better than declines for white women (from 3.8 percent to 3.4 percent) and Hispanic women (5.9 to 5.3 percent)."

These are startling numbers. Admittedly it's hard to accept they are so good solely because of Trump policies or GOP policies, but they are what they are. The economy, as Onwuka sees it, "is improving for black America and should continue to get better as pro-growth and pro-family policies expand our resources and deliver better opportunities."
How is it possible that this is not frontpage news? How is it the 24-hour cable networks that are willing to devote hours of programming to the impact of what President Trump said or might have said in a private meeting with senators discussing immigration policy aren't holding televised townhalls and bringing in the best economic minds in the country to explain why the issue of black unemployment – which many had relegated to the burial ground of insoluble problems – has suddenly taken a turn for the better?
The answer is about more than simple media bias. Previous Republican presidents like Reagan and the two Bushes were regarded with disdain and generally thought to be too dumb to do the job. With Trump it's more than that. It's open hostility to the man reflected in a general unwillingness to cover anything good that he does and anything good that might be happening because of the policies he's put in place. The same people who could never accept that he won the nomination when they all said it was improbable and that he won the presidency despite their projections and polls that showed it would be impossible for him to do so are so vested in proving they were ultimately right that they are not only rooting for him to fail, they are trying to cause it to happen.

Taking this position is not going to win me a lot of friends among my colleagues or cause people to buy me a drink at the National Press Club. I fully understand why Trump seems to be so unsavory to so many people and, to be candid, I'm not totally unsympathetic to their view. But what's going on now between the American press and the president reminds me of the times at the Bear Ridge School when all the boys in the class decided to gang up on me on the playground. I may not have been the easiest kid in the class to get along with, but 15 against 1 was unfair by any standard.
It's the same now for Trump, who must daily confront people who have a responsibility to the rest of us to explain in an impartial fashion the events of the day, events in which the president figures greatly to one degree or another. Even if he invites the abuse he's getting through his tweets and even through remarks made in what he thought was private, it's not right for my press corps colleagues in the major mainstream media to line up to a man and woman on the other side. Given the immense power of the presidency to mobile public opinion some may call that a fair fight. What they're missing is it shouldn't be a fight at all.

Knowing nothing about the guy, he always struck me as a pretty solid dude.
Sixteen months is too soon to allow reliable evaluation of a new administration's performance. But what we see so far is rather disturbing on the ethical/moral front.I guess this is going to hurt....but here it is:

unemployment rate fell to 3.9 percent, falling under 4 percent for the first time since 2000. Even better, unlike during the Obama presidency, the low jobless rate was not due to people giving up and leaving the workforce. Instead, since Trump’s election, almost 1 million new workers have re-entered the labor market. That movement toward self-sufficiency reaps myriad benefits for our society including more stable families, lower crime, and less government dependency. In fact, an amazing 2 million Americans stopped receiving food stamps during fiscal 2017.

In addition, the quality of the jobs improved as wages accelerated in the first quarter of 2018 at the fastest pace in a decade. This trend particularly benefits minorities. For example, in U.S. history, Hispanic unemployment has registered below 5 percent for only seven months, ever. Amazingly, six of those seven months have occurred in the past year under the pro-growth policies of this president. If President Trump is as racist as media pundits claim he is, he’s remarkably bad at it.
A strong America at home supports a strong America abroad as well. On the international scene, this commander in chief, in contrast to his two predecessors, is restrained in his use of American might, but also clear-eyed in his admonitions to our adversaries.
Last week, he took strong action against the awful Iran nuclear deal. Trump recognizes that allowing Iran to simultaneously pursue both advanced nuclear power technology and potent ballistic missiles sets the stage for a very dangerous Tehran regime in years to come. Moreover, Trump showed our allies in the Middle East (Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia) that he will not let the corporatist globalists of Western Europe dictate American policy toward the corrupt mullahs of Iran. The incredible capture of five top Islamic State leaders last week showed the potency of Americans working in concert with our friends in the region.

Speaking of our friends, at long last America made good on our promise to our ally Israel and moved our embassy to Jerusalem. In doing so, Trump showed that campaign promises actually matter, and that we believe that Jerusalem is both the capital of the modern state of Israel as well as the eternal capital of all Jewish people.
On the other side of Asia, Trump set the date and location for the historic summit with Kim Jong Un. The recent detente on the peninsula, including an official end to the Korean War, unfolded largely because of Trump’s leadership, according to various South Korean officials. In fact, even the Secretary General of the United Nations concedes that the “straitjacket” pressure of Trump makes a grand denuclearization deal possible. Trump deployed maximum economic restrictions, diplomatic pressure (largely via China), and forceful rhetoric to compel North Korea toward moderation. As a result, with grateful hearts, President Trump and Melania welcomed home three American hostages back to their families and to our land of freedom.
So, while the Quixotic mainstream media tilts at Russian and porn-star windmills, President Trump makes America more prosperous and more safe. May he have many more John Wooden-esque win streaks like the one he’s had so far in May.

Probably there is another reason as well. He very likely recognizes the difficulty of any independent candidate winning an outright victory in the electoral college (270 votes). The election would then go to the House where there is no chance for an independent to win. If the House should change to majority independent, then that would change everything of course. If Bloomberg ran as a Democrat or Republican he could get elected, but could he then get nominated? I'd vote for him of course.
So many excuses. Almost sounds Hillaryesque.
Everything was against Trump but he wanted to go for it- win or lose and knock down obstacles as he went along. He ran as a republican and he republican party conspired against him every inch of the way. Demanding a loyalty oath from him and then failing to pledge loyalty to him if he were nominated. He just plowed through it.
During the Obama administration there was QE1, QE2, QE3, TARP, and large increases in the Federal budget in an attempt to stimulate the economy. These actions obviously worked in pulling us out of a severe recession.
The Trump administration is not having the benefit of easy money. Indeed, interest rates have gone up and there is an ongoing unwinding of Federal Reserve balance sheet which has the effect of creating a monetary headwind to economic growth.
It appears there have been "structural" economic policies created during the Trump administration in an attempt provide sustainable long term economic growth. A litmus test for real economic progress is less government participation in our economy as would be shown through reduced Federal spending.
I have access to real time land transportation statistics, DAT and LSOL, that show unprecedented transportation volumes and rates. Part of the transportation rate increase of over 50% in the last couple of years was because many drivers left the transportation industry because of Obama administration regulations. Freight volume has also increased as evidenced not just by these statistics, but by how many semi trucks that are illegally parked along our nations highways, rest areas, and travel centers. I have travelled the U.S extensively over the years and have never seen so many semi trucks both on and of the road. Those of you who go on a road trip this Summer will see what I mean.

I see it as our economy and however one wants to allocate the credit for it's current strength, most of us are benefitting from it and will likely do so for a long time.

What do you do for a living?
I am a contract truck driver, trader, commercial real estate agent, commercial loan originator and corporate consultant. On the vast majority of my contracts, I have saved my company either a multiple of what they have paid me or their executive though my ideas to improve their efficiency.
The common denominator for all these independent positions is my ability to travel and work how and when I want. In addition, I am able to take advantage of general or local economic opportunities.
