As discussed and went over your head, we are asking too much of the police and incidents like this are the result.
This is another case of black on black shooting. In Chicago, black on black shootings weekly, average about 60 killed and most of the victims are blacks shot by other black. No BLM arson, looting, riots. In this case, police who were all black were the supposed culprits. Had the victim not died, this would not have been a big deal. If the police were all white, it would now be classified as racism and they would have the book, plus the kitchen sink and bathtub thrown at them in full force in criminal charges.
He was a strong supporter of statutory reforms. These reforms were strongly opposed by the police unions, and Congressional Republicans. Biden never wavered on his support for the George Floyd Legislation. Trump, on the other hand, said we would veto the proposed reforms. The difference between Biden and Trump on Police reform is like the difference between day and night.I disagree. Before election it was BLM and police reform.

If he had been campaigning on fund the police and back the blue and giving billions to police with no reform attached in 2020 I wouldn't be mad at him.I wouldn't have volunteered ,donated and voted for him either as I wont be doing in 2024.I also doubt he would have won if he had been campaigning on back the blue during The BLM protests.

So if you plan to vote for Trump because you think Biden didn't do anything to get police reform through Congress, you might be shooting yourself in the foot. Those in the BLM movement calling for defunding the police were really proposing a repurposing of some of the funds that are now being used for policing. This made sense. They wanted a different kind of policing. This got misinterpreted by the public however. "Defund[ing] the Police" was a badly misunderstood. It was therefore a counterproductive slogan. I'm quite sure Biden recognized how the public was reacting to the slogan. Like many, he thought we needed better trained police held to higher standards. Biden pushed hard to get the George Floyd legislation passed, but since it couldn't be attached to a reconciliation bill, it was going to be subject to the filibuster.
Politics often turns on easily remembered slogans that evoke strong public responses --- "It Takes a Village," "Just Say No", "Stop the Steal, "Make America Great Again," "Defund the Police" --- unfortunately, slogans are seldom an adequate way of conveying complex solutions to complex problems.
My own position on this is different from Biden's. I think the fundamental problem stems from the kind of ex-military people we are hiring to do police work. We should not only pass the George Floyd legislation intact, but in addition require all police to have a four year college education, hire half as many, give them far better training, and pay them twice as much. We should also break the connections between fines and police funding.
I can't agree with those that say the answer to crime is to hire more cops. Instead, I believe we need fewer, higher paid, better educated and better trained cops. Education improves one's judgement. The cops patrolling our streets need a big dose of better judgement. It is said that there are just a few bad apples among our cops. From my vantage point, however, it looks like there may be at least as many bad apples as good ones, at least among our cops on the street. Could it be that the criteria we use in hiring police selects for bad apples?
