Trump, a GERMAN (scot), literally and I mean LITERALLY had Hitler's speeches on his bedside table for years. I will agree that this particular decision by Trump & Sessions to aggressively enforce the law and actively split up families is not a good representation of the values supported by most Americans.

The policy enforcement does send a clear message to illegal immigrants who are considering coming to the U.S. (Don't - unless you want your family split-up & locked up).

The policy also represents Trump's typical way of negotiating. "I'm going to do this to force Congress to take action on my wall & immigration policy changes".

The bottom line is that I do not believe the value of the "clear message" and "negotiation" outweighs the American values of decently treating families - even when they are illegal immigrants. There has to be a more humane way to handle the situation.

However I do not think this family immigration issue will have a significant impact on the mid-term elections. Some new political issue will come up and the headlines about breaking up illegal immigrant families will largely be forgotten two weeks from now.
