To be fair... The Republicans in North Carolina since 2010 are simply returning the favor of what Democrats did for over 100 years in our state when they were in control.
However the Republicans are now able to use modern computer tools to surgically gerrymander districts -- something the Democrats did not have access to in 2000 and earlier.
Part of the reason that Republicans are losing court cases involving gerrymandering in NC is because their leadership could not keep their mouths shut. They were proud of the gerrymandered districts they achieved and effectively bragged about it publicly at every possible opportunity. This, of course, allowed every lawsuit filed over the districts to immediately achieve status in court so they would not be dismissed for lack of grounds - all the plaintiffs needed to do is to play the clip above & others to allow the court case to proceed.

Facing mounting criticism across the country and all the way to the White House, Broward Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes said Tuesday that “it is time to move on” from her time in office.
“I think at this point she should probably think about retiring,” said county Commissioner Michael Udine. “She shouldn’t run the next election.”
Snipes’ statement came in response to a question about Jeb Bush, who originally appointed Snipes to the post in 2003 to fill the remainder of the term in office of Miriam Oliphant. Bush, as governor, had removed Oliphant for what he termed “incompetence” and “misfeasance” following the botched 2002 election, which saw polls open late and close early, among other snafus.
But on Monday, Bush wrote on Twitter, “There is no question that Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes failed to comply with Florida law on multiple counts, undermining Floridians’ confidence in our electoral process. Supervisor Snipes should be removed from her office following the recounts.”

Clear that Snipes need to be removed. Her incompetence and support of fraud is unacceptable.

Given your history of whataboutism and given the history of NC being a conservative state, I don't buy your excuse.

Learn chapter by chapter how the Democratic machine ran our state, rigged elections, and gerrymandered districts for over 100 years when they were in control.
This is what I am talking about, you are gonna pretend that Democrats today are the same 100 years ago without considering the fallout from the CRA which caused the fleeing of Conservatives from the party. Even your book has a chapter on conservative Democrats and no chapter on gerrymandering.
Also, it's the extremes of gerrymandering that's being pointed out, it's not about moving a line here and there, Republicans scientifically drew entire districts to cheat the populace out of fair representation.
For over 100 years in North Carolina - Democrats scientifically drew --- using the tools available to them at the time -- entire districts to cheat the populace out of fair representation. There is an entire book cited above which outlines how they did this across time as the Democratic machine ran NC from 1900 to 2000. Go read it.
