Vaccinations don't cause or facilitate mutations. Mutations are a random process.

The more people that are not vaxxed, the more the number of opportunities for random mutations.
The more people that are not vaxxed, the more the number of opportunities for the mutations to grow and spread.

Reality, researchers only need to see 1 to 2 changes in the genetic code of a virus to determine the mutation country origination. Yet, by the end of 2020...they started to see 10 to 20 mutation changes in the genetic code of Covid...

Those variants are now targeting the unvaccinated...the characteristics of the variants are that they spread faster, they fight harder medical treatments of those that are unvaccinated but infected...

That's the case with the current Delta Variant and its making news because its targeting a different group in the population...Unvaccinated, people under 50 and reaching further down into the population of younger adults.

Look at it this way. Viruses are not stupid...they know to attack the weakest link in the population because viruses want to survive too and the only way they can do such is not by attacking the the host cells of those that are vaccinated.

Sure, vaccines do not have 100% efficacy. Thus, there will be a small percentage within a population that are vaccinated that will become infected but those cases typically result in mild illnesses unless there's an underlying medical condition that makes the infection much worst even though the person was vaccinated.

• The one thing I remember from immunology and genetic classes...we do not want to see more younger adults that are unvaccinated getting infected with a variant nor do we want the variant to have increasing mutations in its genetic code...

Covid will get smart again and mutate again with more changes in its genetic code that could attack those more younger as in children. Thus, I view those that are unvaccinated as a threat to our younger population including children.

Therefore, the more people that are vaccinated or the closer we get to Vaccination Herd Immunity...we reduce the chances of Covid mutating again into a variant that's more dangerous if/when it decides to target children.

Hopefully that day never arrives.

Said mutation may have changed enough to do damage to the next vaccinated person but this is exponentially exacerbated if you're surrounded by vectors who are not vaccinated. In other words, the potential spread of a vaccine resistant strain is worse among those w/zero antibodies, than those w/some antibodies.

From what I am reading, it’s the rate at which the virus replicates itself that seems to be what has made the virus more serious with each mutation. I read the delta variant replicates at 1000x rate as the original strain. And, that is what may cause a danger currently. Not evasion but simply overrunning the system.

With that said, delta could be near peak evolution of Covid. Meaning this strain may be theoretically its most contagious strain, which is Covid’s claim to fame. Australia reported a case of transmission of delta between people in contact for an estimated 2.5 seconds, if I recall correctly. That’s a very high level of contagiousness.

So this is where we are, a strain that multiples at an incredible rate and can be passed in even slight encounters but with a vaccine that can fully protect +90% of people. It’s a miracle to be able to have such highly protective vaccines but dumbfounding to see so many people ignorant of the seriousness of Covid.

similar to drug resistance, mutation until ineffective basically. If replication speed's increased, than that's clearly a sign of evolutionary shift. I don't know if vaccines can train our bodies to accelerate the rate by which we pump antibodies, as we received a dosage all at once.
