Medved Quotetracker or Sierra

I downloaded some qt updates and it put hundreds of icons on my desktop. If I tried to delete more than one at a time using ctrl button it would create copies so I had to delete them one at a time. Took me over an hour. Whats up with that?:( This happened once before but not so bad as this time. Wont make that mistake again.

I used the old medved but when my paid license was obsoleted I stopped. I have used Sierra for a while and find the following things good:

1) rock solid reliability
2) good range of standard functionalility
3) great dll interface which answers some of Roberk's issues on the prev page. Note that these are on a Woodies Club site so some members here could not bring themselves to use them.

a) i rewrote the sierra pivots so that they use one chart and default to whole day but u can set market start and end. Does all pivots out to 4 and optionally woodies or standard pivots. Also optionally warns you if the pivot gets close to the price.

b) i did an overlay for sierra that lets you add choose to use a close or average price line. you might be able to do that with the standard functionality ??

c) also did a function that lets you add user defined proportions of other indexes which some woodies club members use to create a dollar index for ib.

d) and because folk at woodies club like to trade without price but consider the angle of the lsma and ema34 to be important filters I did and interesting one which creates an angle box showing the angle of the two lines in it.

4) Recently mg has written a dll that lets you do both tick and constant volume charts in Sierra.

Basically its a good dll interface with a fast compiled language so you have great flexibility.

If you like andrews babson lines and other channels then Sierra is a real pain so I wouldnt bother ... perhaps ensign or, if it does it well, quotetracker. Also at present you cant put text on the chart from the dll.

Kiwi

PS. Despite my tease for the anti-woodie team this stuff is actually freely available for any sierra users. :)

You installed the software into the desktop directory. Of course that will happen! That would happen if you installed any software into the desktop directory.

Uninstall it, then install it into the proper folder:
C:\Program Files\QuoteTracker

And just in case you are downloading a zip file - don't. Get the install from http://www.quotetracker.com/download

Yeah. I feel kind of silly. I do not usually download those updates but I was in a hurry for some reason and clicked the button. I will say one thing. You have the prettiest charts.:)

Quote from j_medved:

1) QuoteTracker DOES have Backfill support if you use a quote source that has it. IB doesn't. Not for QT, Not for Sierra. If you use IQFeed, Prophet.net, eSignal, Money.net or one of the others that do have backfill support, then QT will have that.

2) even without backfill support, you do NOT start blank every day. We have had 5 day chart support for a long time now.

3) IB symbology in QT is documented at http://www.quotetracker.com/help/ib.shtml

GLOBEX:@ESH4
GLOBEX:@NQH4
DTB:@FDAX MAR 04 Must have 1 space before and after MAR
ECBOT:@YM MAR 04 Must have 3 spaces after YM and 1 space after MAR

The symbol peculiarities (multiple spaces, etc) is not a QT thing. Those symbols are IB's.

4) If you were getting constant updates to QT software, then you must have been using the beta version of the software. The production version does not change for months. Beta changes can be daily. What do you expect when its BETA.

5) Gaps in charts - you have full control over the time periods QT displays on the charts and can omit days or adjust start/end times.

Having said all that, I know that there are certain things that QuoteTracker lacks - long term historical charts built directly by QT for example, backtesting, alerts on indicators. Some of those things will be taken care of by us in the future, others we leave to other programs such as Sierra, AmiBroker, Wealth-Lab and others. We are not trying to be everything to everybody and do not feel that you should always use QuoteTracker instead of Sierra or others. There is plenty of room for both products.

We are actually implementing an API that will let other programs such as the ones mentioned get streaming data through QT from any of QT supported data feeds, thus allowing more efficient interaction between QT and the 3rd party programs, so the user will more easily be able to run multiple systems at the same time, but without having to have multiple subscriptions or having to get multiple streams of data ont he same symbols that may be in the two systems.

j_medved,

I just dled QT. I'ved used it a while back. Now, I'm trying it again.

Anyhow, can QT get historical DAILY chart of the e-minis? I know it can do the intraday chart. I can't seem to get the daily chart as well. I'm using IB to power the quotes. So, I guess it's no? hehe

sure. Bring up the historical chart on any symbol, then just enter ESM4 as the symbol in the yellow symbol field on the historical chart and hit enter

thanks! it didn't work b4 cuz i click on the full symbol where it had the globex:@esm4.

BTW, how come i don't get any quotes for yen and euro??

I put globex:@jpym4 and globex:@eurm4. i get those quotes on my IB TWS though. Hmm...

Also, can QT backfill intraday for the eminis? Because when I go to the backfill data proxy, it didn't have IB. Does this mean i have to 1) get eSignal 2) start QT early enough during the day before the open to have a full chart of the day?

Also, can you do multiple time frame charts? Like a 1min and 5min on the same symbol??
thanks!
