any belief, system, technology can become an obsession. at the "obsession" point these things become harmful to one's well being. i try to live by the moto--ALL things in moderation.

You know this already, but I hope others see how everything we've touched on relates not only to meditation but to trading.
I would like to say, if you enter trading
with an open mind, with sincerity, and courage... then you will find your own way, do not fear.
If you feel the need for a guide, allow it to come naturally, perhaps along the way you will meet an individual who you will befriend, a relationship of connectedness may form and a sharing of trading techniques
may naturally occur.
BUT PLEASE... do *not* pay for a guide. It is a dysfunctional desperate relationship.
Trading IS freedom... Dependence on a guide or group defeats the very essence of trading
.

Quote from OPTIONAL777:
Most individuals who arrived at true greatness, either in this world, or in their quest for things beyond this world were obsessed with their goals.
The lived for their goals, and everything else was secondary to their vision.....nothing else mattered.
You don't come in first place without being obsessed with the prize.

Quote from marketsurfer:
yes, you are semi- correct 777. however, i prefer to call the obsession with one's goals--- FOCUS. there are many obsessed individuals who never achieve greatness. the ability to FOCUS is the key, not obsession. in addition, in the context of this thread on meditation, if one becomes obsessed with meditation and "meditates" all day, day in and day out--it becomes harmful---however, if one uses meditation as a tool--it can be most excellent for your well-being.

Quote from OPTIONAL777:
I usually get a chuckle when you try to "correct" me.
One can have the ability to focus, but unless that person is obsessed with their goal, untill that person is willing to do anything it takes to achieve at that goal, focus is meaningless.
The part of the mind that focuses is the intellect, but it is the desire that burns in the heart that is the director of that focus.
Mind follows desire. Burning desire is at the root of all great accomplishments.
Intense desire brings everything into focus.

Speaking of paying for what they already know, from marketsurfer: it has always been my contention that people will pay you to tell them what they already know.
Ana Mariafrom Rodney Dangerfield-- "My psychiatrist told me I'm going crazy. I told him .... If you don't mind I'd like a second opinion. He said .... Alright.... you're ugly too!"

Quote from marketsurfer:
if one cannot focus, intense desire will burn achieving nothing in the process. obsession is intense desire without intelligent focus.
