McCain says Trump has two choices on wiretap claim: provide evidence or retract

“President Trump has to provide the American people — not just the intelligence community, but the American people — with evidence that his predecessor, former president of the Unites States, was guilty of breaking the law,” McCain said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

The Arizona Republican, who lost the 2008 presidential election to Obama, said he has “no reason to believe that the charge is true.”

Trump leveled the explosive claim in a series of tweets last weekend.

Trump declared." data-reactid="12">“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump declared.

he added." data-reactid="13">“Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!” he added.

Trump provided no evidence to back up the claims, and a spokesman for Obama branded the accusation “simply false.” The White House then called on Congress to investigate to “determine whether executive branch investigative powers were abused in 2016.”

According to the New York Times, FBI Director James Comey asked the Justice Department “to publicly reject” Trump’s assertion that Obama ordered the tapping of Trump’s phones.

McCain said Trump could put the issue to rest by calling the director of the CIA and the director of National Intelligence for proof.

“The president of the Unites States could clear this up in a minute,” McCain said. “All he has to do is pick up the phone, call the director of the CIA, director of National Intelligence and say, ‘OK, what happened?’ Because they certainly should know whether the former president of the United States was wiretapping Trump Tower.”

Indeed, if Trump had obtained wiretapping information from his own intelligence sources, he would have the authority to declassify the material and substantiate his claims.

“There’s a lot of aspects of this whole relationship with Russia and Vladimir Putin that requires further scrutiny,” McCain said. “And, so far, I don’t think the American people have gotten all the answers. In fact, I think there’s a lot more shoes to drop from this centipede.”

“This does deserve an investigation, because there are just so many coincidences,” Hayden said.

Hayden, a vocal critic of Trump during the campaign, said there seems to be a lot of what he would call “connective tissue between at least elements of the Trump campaign and people inside the Russian Federation — an unusual number.”

House committee wants evidence for Trump's wiretap claim

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The House intelligence committee is asking the Trump administration for evidence that the phones at Trump Tower were tapped during the campaign as its namesake has charged.

President Donald Trump asserted in a tweet last week: "Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my 'wires tapped' in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!" He continued the allegation against former President Barack Obama in other tweets but offered no evidence.

On Saturday a senior congressional aide said the request for evidence by Monday was made in a letter sent by the committee chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and the panel's ranking Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., according to the aide, who wasn't authorized to discuss the request by name and requested anonymity.

Obama's director of national intelligence, James Clapper, has said that nothing matching Trump's claims had taken place, but that has not quelled speculation that Trump's communications were monitored by the Obama administration. Trump has asked Congress to investigate.

Early this past week, Schiff said the committee would answer the president's call to investigate the claim. He also said that he would ask FBI Director James Comey directly when he appears later this month before the full committee, which is investigating Russian activities during the election.

"We should be able to determine in fairly short order whether this allegation is true or false," Schiff told reporters Tuesday evening at the Capitol.

Nunes has said that so far he has not seen any evidence to back up Trump's claim and has suggested the news media were taking the president's weekend tweets too literally.

"The president is a neophyte to politics — he's been doing this a little over a year," Nunes told reporters earlier this week.

Other lawmakers have asked for similar evidence.

Declaring that Congress "must get to the bottom" of Trump's claim, Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., asked Comey and Acting Deputy Attorney General Dana Boente to produce the paper trail created when the Justice Department's criminal division secures warrants for wiretaps.
Sen. John McCain said Trump could "clear this up in a minute" if he were to call "the director of the CIA, director of national intelligence and say, 'OK, what happened?'"

McCain, R-Ariz., told CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday: "I do believe on issues such as this, accusing a former president of the United States of something which is not only illegal, but just unheard of, that requires corroboration. I'll let the American people be the judge, but this is serious stuff."

Are they still talking about what happened last Saturday? Establishment republicans are slaves to the media. They think they have to answer to NBC. They haven't done or said anything meaningful for the last 8 years because they are afraid what the media may say about them. CNN already proved you can lie your ass off and it's no big deal. At least it was no big deal when a democrat did it.

Trump/the white house has provided 5 different sources already which the MSM like the NY times is calling "fake news". Here is a picture of the headlines of one of those fake news sites. You decide if they are reputable or not.

Thank you.

Flynn was tapped. Trumps phone calls to the Mexican and austrailia pms were tapped and also released to the press.

So who did it? Who had the authority ?

BBC said the FBI applied for two fisa warrants against trump and associates. Named them individually.

So who applied for the fisa warrants the first time ? Who authorized targeting trump and associates the first time ?

McCain says all these transcripts and news reports never happened.

We got a problem here
