Swiss Army makes a (carry on) case that fits all of this but I can't find the item number right now. It has 4 zippered compartments; one for both monitors, one for the laptop, one for the docking station and he front section for cables and extras.

This set up gives you plenty of screen space plus a ton of computing power. I run Vista Ultimate but XP Pro is as robust. I personally prefer XP but I've configured my laptop to maximize Vista . . . if that's at all possible.

I run MultiCharts and eSignal for charting and data. I then run JTrader for my platform. I have plenty of power to spare in any situation so far. It has been well worth the investment.

Finally, NEVER run anything related to Norton or McAfee on your system. For antivirus use www.avast.com. Keep your system clean and stay away from the porn sites and this set up should run for years without a problem. I update every two years just because I have the "Tim Allen" mentality of wanting the most efficient set up out there.

Hi PL:

May I ask, if you go to Europe or Asia, what transformer product [link?] do you use for your 2 compact monitors. Thanks.

You don't need a transformer. The power bricks on the monitors, laptop and docking station work with a standard converter.
I carry an Asian power strip that is good in Asia & Europe and simply have 5 US-to-World power converters. I was lucky to find a power stip that was wide enough to handle the size of the converters. I haven't been able to find an Asian Squid power strip.

Hi PL:

Thanks for your quick reply and the useful links. I am reminded of the usefulness of EBAY thru you constantly ;-)

I tend to see some things at a particular vendor (eg TigerD.) and want to get everything there. Bad habit. Pays to shop around.

I recall the Matrox things being really expensive. Also, I think it's sort of a hacky solution, like it tricks Windows into thinking you're using one huge monitor, which results in some performance quirks and limitations on resolution.

I use 2 monitors with my laptop, one runs off the laptop's VGA output and the other uses an iogear USB-to-DVI adapter. I've used some crappy USB display adapters (like ones that result in flickering, color distortion, slow framerate etc.) but the iogear has worked perfectly, I have no complaints. I think USB-to-VGA adapters (rather than DVI) tend to perform less well.

The resoution runs as 3840x1024
The matrox does make the computer think it is one large monitor, but I have noticed no problems.
