Materialists

Quote from TradeOff:

"God, religion, brainwashed, banal, generic personality idiots by the billions are forcing their brainwashed shit all over me. "

But... that's just a generalization isn't it?

to

Yes, we use generalizations in order to communicate our ideas which are general
opinions. The above sentence is a generalization. Get my point? But yes there are no universal truth or constants. But the previous sentence is a generalization too. There are, there aren't and everything else that can and can't be thought of.

Quote from ShoeshineBoy:

No way - he's dead serious.

And I still can't figure out why atheism so often, again in my experience, produces a superiority complex...

If I explained it to you fifty times you still wouldn't understand. It would be best if you just left the thinking to the thinkers, and stop pretending to be capable of worthwhile thoughts because you're not.

Hello my "jew-turned-agnostic nihilist" friend.

I'VE NEVER INDICATED THAT I'M A NIHILIST. I BELIEVE YOU'VE MISTAKENLY REFERED TO ME AS ONE BEFORE, AND I'VE CORRECTED YOU. YOU PROBABLY CONTINUE TO REFER TO ME AS A NIHILISH BECAUSE YOU'VE NO EXPERIENCE WITH MY TYPE OF PHILOSOPHY.

I share some of your anger and grievances towards people of the cloth that have used and abused religion for the sake of power, influence, control and dominance. I understand your anger towards institutionalized constructs that have turned insightful understanding of our universe into a "drive-thru McReligion" world.

WELL WRITTEN BUT I FEEL DIFFERNTLY.

However, let me also remind you that no matter who says what about this and that, what remains as truth is absolute outside our own beliefs and opinions.

THERE IS NO TRUTH. TRUTH IS A CONCEPT.

You Mr. Rowenwood wake up each day and look outside your window in the early morning and see abundant evidence of design and purpose.

NO, DON'T. I SEE MY AREA OF THE WORLD. I SEE CHAOS AND ORDER WHICH IS JUST BEING AS IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN.

It is in the grass you cut each week, the people you meet each day and even in your thoughts and dreams.

You know very well that god exists. He is not the Jewish god, Christian god or the muslim god. He transcends any book, disciple or prayer. He is the alpha and the omega. You know very well what I mean, Mr. Rowenwood.

IF THERE IS A GOD IT ISN'T A HE. FOR A GOD WOULDN'T HAVE GENITALS. NOR WOULD IT BE ANYTHING IMAGINABLE. GOD WOULD BE BEYOND THOUGHT BECAUSE THOUGHTS AR BASE AND ANIMALISTIC. GOD WOULDN'T BE SITTING AROUND DECIDING WROG FROM RIGHT. GOD WOULD BEYOND ALL THAT SUBJECTIVE CRAP. GOD WOULD BE BEYOND THE OBJECTIVE AS WELL.

Don't dispute him because of your anger towards those who choose to indoctrinate themselves into the McReligion institutions.

YOUR AND THEIR IDEA OF GOD IS BANAL AND OBVIOUSLY DANGEROUS.

Quote from TradeOff:

"Getting over the god and spiritual shit is a beginning step in becomming a great thinker."

So what is the greatest thought you have thought?

Btw, "becoming" only has one "m."

I'm so bored with being human and being confined to experiencing life with my brain. I want something beyond thought. I want to transcend myself. Something that isn't subjective or objective. Something new, more, and innefible.

>people attracted to atheism or does atheism
>produce arrogance?

The thread originally started out questioning the name calling which I have no real answer for. It morphed a bit into the arrogance thing and I certainly DO have some comments regarding that issue...

Read Aphie's post below, particular the last two paragraphs. (no offense Aphie, your post just happened to be right next to Shoe's above question and was a perfect example so I used it.)

On average theists display MORE arrogance than any group I know. Theists "know" why I act the way I do. Theists "know" what I have accepted and rejected. Theists "know" whether I have been saved or not. Theists "know" what I need to do to be "saved". Theists "know" what is going to happen to me in the end. In the above the theist even goes so far as to tell the agnostic "You know very well that god exists" -- so, theists even "know" what I know or don't know.

As dearly departed ART would say. "Hubris".

JB

I concur.

This guy has about 10000 handles. You have only named some of them.

You are the oxygen that feeds his fire. Once I recognise the new version, "he" goes on the ignore list.

I have been on this board for almost three years now, and this person has gotten worse and worse over the years. He has at the very least massive brain damage, probably self-inflicted by alchohol abuse.

I don't know if you have ever met anyone with Tourretes Syndrome - this guy has the Internet version of that disease. It doesn't have a name yet, but it will one day.

nitro

I was thinking the same thing last night as I was beating my head against the wall...In fact, I though, "How did I get suckered into this? Why, O, why?"

And, yeah, I have known a couple people with Tourettes. That's not a bad analogy. One guy worked in the blueprint area. Every time he yelled I almost threw my milars across the room...

We all think we know what the other person is thinking. We all think we're right.

The issue is this: can an individual be mature enough not to trash talk everyone who disagrees with them in a conversation so there can be meaningful dialogue? Yes, I know theists can be highly annoying. But generally they avoid the trashtalking of someone like rowenwoodlongshotgordongekkostu...

And, above all, does the individual think he is superior? The great majority of theists that I know do not feel superior to the rest of mankind. Coming from their standpoint, they simply feel, in the vernacular, "lucky"...

Isn't that what the ET forum is for?

Is that because guys like SSB and me are intellectually inferior to atheists or others?

( : B

However you consider SSB and me does not negate that I think I'm a thinker.
