The study was limited by not knowing the exact number of people that were protesting and lack of contact tracing for those individuals. Also, the study was limited by the number of states that were not under stay-at-home orders for a minimum of 30 days to get a valid estimation period for the event study.




That looks like strong evidence to show that lockdowns failed because there was substantial spread as soon as they reopened.

That is not proof that the protests caused outdoor spread.

Correlation does not prove causation.

Yes.. .and sadly since the Trump administration failed so completely at contract tracing for the U.S. -- the only evaluation data points are either the statistical rise in COVID cases in a community after the event (in excess of other locations) or the number of COVID cases reported among those who attended the event when reported to local health departments.

Multiple studies have been done regarding the George Floyd protests last summer regarding COVID. Every one of those studies showed an increase in COVID cases in larger protest locations following the protests. The media chose to interpret the information did not show enough of an increase -- therefore pushed stories saying there were no spikes. The actual studies they reference show differently -- there was an increase in COVID cases after protests.

Yes... most people wore masks at these protests and they were held outdoors. Due to this -- despite the lack of social distancing at the protests -- the transmission of COVID was limited; not resulting in absurdly high spikes in new cases (which would have been the case if they were held indoors without masks). However any narrative that there was no increases in COVID cases due to the George Floyd protests does not hold up when looked at in actual studies.

The CDC says the vast majority of transmission is through droplets within 6 feet.

Almost anytime you read about proof of airborne spread ... they point to very early cases in China and an Aussie choir practice which occurred very early on before anybody really knew anything.
