Martin Schwartz talks about losing $25m Feb 2018

I'd like to know how many of you guys started trading in 1970s, have been trading consistently since then, LOST 25 million as recently as Feb 2018, and are still trading.

And also started racing horses.

And trading art.

And still relevant enough in 2019 to give an interview for a trading podcast. That's 40 years. 40 fucking years.

The fact that the guy switched to selling premium in low vol means he adapts. He started with options before futures iirc.

The interview setup is hilarious:

"Addictiveness is the reason why so many players who make fortunes leave the game broke"

He definitely addicted, he openly admits to it. If he no longer has an edge then he just Gambling and is no longer Trading. Hopefully he or his family can keep his size in check so he doesn't do too much damage in the future.
There must be a fine line between addiction and dedication.
Wonder what it is?
Maybe addiction is losing discipline?

Yeah, selling premium in low vol. Makes sense.

That is all that he is doing. Feb wasn’t timing... he is always in. Losing 1/2 of your LNW in a week isn’t gambling, it’s suicide.

I dunno. Point is he changed over those forty years.

Personally, I find it uncomfortable taking on strategies that involve open-ended risks. Selling options for income is one of them. Marty Schwartz is a market wizard. I believe he knows how to manage the open-ended risks.
