marriage and government

Quote from ShoeshineBoy:

No, I am not saying it was possibly necessary. I am saying it WAS necessary.

And if you would read the actual passage in the Bible instead of pulling something off of infidel.org, you would see that that was true.

The Bible is clear: "every thought of mankind was wicked" so God invoked capital punishment.

This is NOT a "whim" as you put it. It was a judicial sentence.

check rest of the post.

hmm so now mere "thots" justify murder? and the infants it killed, they were thinking wicked thots too?

Quote from LongShot:

EX 7:1, 14, 9:14-16, 10:1-2, 11:7 The purpose of the devastation that God brings to the Egyptians is as follows:
to show that he is Lord;
to show that there is none like him in all the earth;
to show his great power;
to cause his name to be declared throughout the earth;
to give the Israelites something to talk about with their children;
to show that he makes a distinction between Israel and Egypt.

Haha god is like adolph hitler only everlasting.. Hooray for god and his morals.

P.s. I dont like religious debate but this is fun to get into the morals of judeo cristianity as well

To be honest, I dont think god to be bad with these actions, just dont think people are bad if they act like god, too, thats hypocrite.

Here god is bestowing his love to his children once again:

EX 12:29 The Lord kills all the first-born in the land of Egypt.

thank you god [for ridding us of these wicked children??!]

Quote from alfonso:

Oh come on Shiney, surely you understand the simple logic, don't you?

You don't want an adult bookstore next door to you (neither do I, though it wouldn't be that bad) and I don't want a cement factory next door to me.

You think that because you wouldn't it next door to you there shouldn't be one anywhere in your city.

You think that anyone saying they don't want one next door to them but allowing that there could be one somewhere in the city is a "hypocrite".

That's absurd.

You don't want a cement factory next to you -- regardless of the reasons why -- and yet I'm quite certain you would allow a cement factory somewhere in a city, and I'm certain you don't feel the slightest bit hypocritical about it.

And you're assuming that an adult bookstore must be "next door" to someone, when that's not even true. Ever heard of commercial and industrial zones?

ps - what does "thanks for the segway" mean?

No, my point is that most people don't want an adult bookstore close to their homes or schools for a very simple reason: they know that a much higher percentage of pedophiles, sex addicts, etc., etc. will be trafficking throught the doors of that place than the general population at, say, a mall.

And what I was getting at is most non-Christian people with kids would feel the same that I do. They don't want an adult bookstore, strip club, etc. close to their home. And I think it's justified obviously.

I wasn't intentionlly arguing for no adult bookstores in a city - that's unrealistic in a large metro area like I live in. I was using that as an argument that a local neighborhood should have the right to get rid of those things if they want to. Sorry to be confusing...

This is ridiculous! How else could God free the Hebrew people?!? The Hebrews were slaves in the mightiest civilization on the planet! The babies died painlessly and if there is a God He already knew their end. This was obviously the only way to get the Hebrew slaves out of Egypt or He wouldn't have done it!

Please, don't argue with issues that the Bible is clear on. Obviously, infidel.org is non-discerning. The least you can do is pick some of the stories in the old testament where the specifics aren't mentioned.

And do you have to write in caps all the time? You're giving me a headache...

No, you are ignoring the facts. The Hebrews were a tiny group of people brutally held captive by the most powerful civilization on the planet. How else could God keep the Egyptians from not pursuing the completely defenseless Israelites?

And if the babies died peacefully, then the only pain was for the Egyptian parents. And these are the very parents who have enslaved the Hebrews and other surrounding nations! What is unfair about that?

I find this amusing because if you were talking to a Jew you would emphasize how great it was that they were freed from Egyptian slavery. But since it's fashionable to slam Christians, you take the Bible out of context and make it say something it doesn't.
