Don't tell me that. I just bought GLD the other day at 91.70. Reasons: 1. Inflation 2. I think the dollar will weaken 3. Panic in the financial markets.

But I will probably dump it when the VIX spikes to 35.

Surf, now it can tank.:D

Dumped my GLD today. VIX went to 31 good enough for me. But didn't have a chance to reverse into UYG.

"due to inherent structural and core issues in large metallic financial operations."

could you simplify that... i apologize, my native language is English. :p

p.s. - platinum appears to be leading recently?

Quote from marketsurfer:

no, not all.

we are anticipating a massive global commodity sell off at some point between now and 4.1.2009, led by the metals, potentially due to inherent structural and core issues in large metallic financial operations.

Well, finally you came out of the cave with a argument.
And its not a bad one. Commodities are due a correction and we are just before a economic downturn, historically we should expect a 20% decline in the CRB index(now called CCI) but with commodity index funds, physical ETFs and with a massive boom of financial intermediation in the last decades we are clearly in uncharted territory and undershooting to the downside could easly happen.

I know thats not popular to say this on ET but it seems that deflation is becoming more of a threat by the day, there is plenty of smart people on the deflation camp who are hardly government morons(namely peter thiel, john mauldin, pimco) and decoupling is an unlikely outcome by the simple fact its pretty hard to find examples through history, I doubt we see $600 gold again but a big correction IS a possibility which makes me lean torward decreasing position and take profits while I can. A cash position in a commodity currency with massive carry(brazilian real) should outperform gold and will provide some profits in case commodities keep going up and the carry protects against a sell-off in comm or dollar comeback

Surf,
If you have any Dec $21 calls for $10.90 please call me ASAP as I'll buy 'em all.

Gold market got smashed down. I am not an option trader, did those strategies get hurt or make money?

H!lL!j

This article is a good example of how much bad info is out there on the net. I pointed out one mistake, he went back and fixed it, but missed another.

There's no ratio in his ratio spread. He forgot the other leg.
