Well shorts only get burnt if they do not use a stop loss to protect their position/trade.

There is nothing wrong with shorting the market. I shorted the market last week and lost $100 as well.

You can only follow your trading plan.

However, as for long term buying stocks, an investor should be buying good companies on sale in increments, not all in once.
