Majority of Americans Favor Gun Control Laws, Poll Shows

Quote from hughb:

The Firearms Owner's Protection Act bans ownership by private citizens of fully automatic weapons that were not registered before May 19, 1986. It was signed into law by Ronald Reagan. Fully automatic weapons registered before that date are still legal.

Take note ET republicans that democratic politicians aren't the only ones who restrict guns, conservative hero Reagan did and the guy most of you voted for last month signed an assault weapons ban.

Hope they throw the book at the SOB but he's a libturd and necessary to the cause so I doubt much will happen.

BWAHAHAHAHA! Meet the Press moderator pulled out a thirty round magazine and showed it to LaPierre and asked him if it were outlawed would it not decrease the amount of carnage in mass shootings.

Small problem. Meet the Press studios are located in the DC city limits. 30 round magazines are illegal there - attached to a firearm or not.

I've taken the idea that "guns don't kill, people do" and expanded on it. I always thought it was a fairly bogus saying but nowadays I'm seeing that it leads to solution.

I studied psychopaths, and expanded it to the whole spectrum of people that fail to connect to their emotions in early childhood. I'm reading the accounts of these various shootings and seeing that if that certain immature swath of humanity were removed from the equation we wouldn't have ANY of these attacks. I can't think of a way to implement that other than some draconian measures applied to the psychos. At least if we did that measures would not need to be applied to mature citizens.

Diagnosing/databasing before they ever commit a crime and not allowing guns [or drivers licenses] to be in their possession might be one way to do it. If we got them identified before they did serious crimes it would be a big step up in quality of life for the rest of us. I don't think that most people realize what a big step that would be. I've written here before about my observations of the psychopaths and the ripple effect they have on the rest of humanity's feelings of happiness and wellbeing. It's a rather large effect that just one out of fifty has on us when they do half of all the serious crimes. They do lots of things that don't get them arrested that drag the rest of us down as well.

Read Dr. Hare's literature on the subject. He terms them "intraspecies predators" and my observations bear that out, there isn't better terminology for what they are. Allowing an intraspecies predator access to a weapon such as a handgun that is designed to kill the very species they prey on is REALLY STUPID..

Well said and beyond the conversational scope, unfortunately.

The problem with the above, is most of the higher echelon bureaucrats/politicians/industrialists/bankers/wallstreet types are psychopaths. In essence, they'd write and pass laws that would make themselves second-class citizens. Psychos gravitate to power so they can live above it. Commit their crimes without fear of prosecution or redress. What better place to do it, than Government?

Don't want to rock the boat for you, but they already ban firearms and weapons, full automatic weapons, explosives, etc. If you guys are going to bitch and moan get serious and demand some real fire power. If not being able to have a 30 round clip is hurting your constitutional rights then banning fully automatic weapons is castrating your 2nd amendment rights.

Absolutely not true, sorry bro.

Automatic weapons can be attained by dealers, ex-mil or other folks who pass the necessary checks (which are quite tough). Ex-SF guy down the road let me shoot his M4 two months ago. Was nice.

Explosives being "Banned" doesn't stop crazies from making them (fertilizer bombs, etc). A ban there is akin to the bazooka argument Red Duke was using - it's about the need for such items - no one has a use for them. If you want to hunt or protect your home, explosive devices aren't all that useful.

I don't know why little arrow is even participating in this discussion. He doesn't know the first thing about it.

2. If prior ownership is grandfathered in I will keep them
In the event of a ban.

1)Why do you feel it's OK for you to have "high capacity"mags but no one in the future is allowed to purchase them, legally?

2)Do you think the ban will be effective? Or will the millions already in circulation simply continue to circulate?

1.I didn't say it was ok or that I approved,I said I accepted majority rule on the issue

2.I dont think it will stop all mass shootings but I think it will be effective at reducing mass shootings. The millions in circulation wont stay in circulation at the levels they are now as owners will keep and protect their extended mags and assault rifles knowing they cant get more

Polls show the majority of Americans are opposed to obamacare.

Somehow I doubt you'll agree to a repeal though.

Hypocrasy in action

No . I accept the fact that this is a majority rules country though, makes life much easier then getting angry over policies I don't agree with

The people had a direct vote on Obamacare last month and you know how that turned out
