MAGA/Greatest Presidency: U.S. Just Borrowed $488 Billion, a Record High for the First Quarter

the first site I clicked for failed socialism is below. ...
Then I think about all the wrecked american cities due to lefty policies.

exgoper's list of gdp states is far off point.
Many of the states boomed prior to becoming lefty. California was once libertarian... not that long ago. the 80s and earlier.

Do lefties really think that socialism is good for the well being of the people are they just pushing the idea to lower carbon use?

What I think OP is looking for is a list of Western European nations, "westernized" nations, and former colonies who have undergone economic liberalization after periods of left-wing economic policy. I can think of very few. I can think of:

  • New Zealand
  • Canada
  • UK
  • Singapore
  • Hong Kong
  • Chile
  • Japan (a very interesting case of a country whose economy was stagnant under nationalism, and then boomed from imposed-liberalization, and then was stupefied in a Keynesian experiment gone mad)
  • West Germany (where the "German economic miracle" was sparked by a single man abolishing wage and price controls against the wishes of the American, French, and British occupiers.)
  • Estonia (whose young Prime Minister reformed the post-USSR economy based on suggestions in Milton Friedman's Free to Choose)
Isn't it funny how every single time capitalism works, they call it a "miracle"? Anyway, most of Europe, sadly, seems to be in long-term managed-decline.

And here are the officially socialist and formerly socialist states and former states.

Wiki

I did not include whether or not current socialist states are either failing or growing at a significantly slower pace than less socialist neighbors but it's pretty easy to guess which ones are: all of them

Current Marxist-Leninist countries include:

  • China (soft-landing)
  • Cuba (in progress)
  • Laos (80% of population works in agriculture, one of the lowest annual incomes of any country in the world. 1/3 earn below $1.25 per day)
  • Vietnam (I'm sure the government here is very much aware I just googled this to get that wikipedia page) (soft-landing)
Former Marxist-Leninist Countries

  • Afghanistan (1978-1992)
  • Albania (1946-1992)
  • Angola (1975-1992)
  • Benin (1975-1990)
  • Bulgaria (1946-1990)
  • Cambodia (1975-1989)
  • Congo (1975-1992)
  • Czechoslovakia (1946-1990)
  • Ethiopia (1974-1991)
  • East Germany (1949-1990)
  • Hungary) (1949-1989)
  • North Korea 1948-1992 (in 1992, all references to Marxist-Leninism were scrubbed. Remains generic "socialist" state)
  • Mongolia (1924-1990)
  • Mozambique (1975-1990) (my mom who is Portuguese lived here during this time)
  • Poland (1945-1989)
  • Romania (1947-1989)
  • Somalia (1969-1991)
  • Soviet Union (1922-1991)
  • North Vietnam (1945-1975) (then they won the war)
  • South Yemen (1967-1990)
  • Ukraine (1919-1991)
  • Yugoslavia (1945-1992)
Anybody else notice a trend with the Marxist-Leninist countries?

Non Marxist-Leninist Socialist Countries

  • Bangladesh (1971-)
  • Guinea-Bissau (1973-)
  • Guyana (1980-)
  • India (1976-)
  • North Korea (1992-)
  • Nepal (2015-)
  • Portugal (1976-)
  • Sao Tome (1975-)
  • Sri Lanka (1985-)
  • Tanzania (1964-)
Former Non Marxist-Leninist Socialist Countries

  • Algeria (1963-1989)
  • Burma (1962-1988)
  • Cape Verde (1975-1992)
  • Egypt (1958-2007)
  • Iraq (1968-2003)
  • Libya (1969-2011)
  • Madagascar (1975-1992)
  • Sudan (1973-1985)
  • Syria (1963-2012)
"Socialism has never been tried!"

Note that Venezuela isn't on that list. Anybody know why? This makes me think it's missing others as well.

Why don't you look closer home and tell us all the red states thriving economically because of right wing policies. Name a few and I will dig up the stats.

If you look at history... from Venezuela to south america and central america to eastern Europe to the Soviet Union to China to europe before it Thatcher got to privitize can any honest person not see that socialism and govt control hold back the wealth and well being of almost all citizens save the cronies?

If you are not willing to observe and understand that lesson... there is no point in conversation.

Cronies in control is not a good thing for non cronies. You get Cuba, you get Venezueala. you get backwards republics like yugoslavia... which was superior to the eastern block.

have you spent anytime in backwards lefty countries? I did... it was terrible.
I met people who hands shook when they asked our group to go across the border to Italy and bring them back jeans so they could take them back to romania. I saw 12 men doing the work of a 14 year old sweeping tennis courts.

that is just the surface.
