I read that article....what am I missing here?

She was receiving 400000 plus a year from her investment and then suddenly , overnight, she is working as a maid.

What did she do with the 400000 each year. Some of it was to pay taxes for sure, but the rest?

I feel for her loss and it was a sympathetic story,but something doesn't add up.
