Just to pick a name at random, the Clintons had an amazing number of coincidences where formerly close colleagues, etc suffered mysterious deaths, deaths that were invariably labeled suicides by authorities who reported to them. Wags even coined a name for the phenomenon, Arkancides. I'm a fan of Mattis... at least from what I've heard about his reputation.

When it comes to "military function", you really don't want a pussy at the top of the chain of command. (Includes the POTUS... and unfortunately... in Odumbo's case.)

Not saying America should be a bully, and "throw its weight around"... but when push comes to shove, everyone should know it's unwise and risky to "poke the big dog".

Okay, I would say the water is murky on that. Did Russian rebels in Ukraine steal the missile system from Ukraine Gov, or was it given to them by Putin? If the later, was the shootdown intentional? Likely not. Looks bad they removed the system after the shootdown. If true, probably a case of mistaken identity and Putin trying to cover tracks.

NATO probably shot down that commercial airliner in Syria just recently, btw.

I just don't understand this reluctance to call Putin a bad guy, because he is clearly a bad guy.
 
Speculating here that Trump has been gracious to Putin because he's the type of guy (in business anyway) that goes for the kill when he senses weakness. He suspects Putin is that kind of guy as well. With the Obama admin apologizing all over the world for the last 8 years for America's "bullying", I wonder if Trump views Putin's actions as largely ANTI-OBAMA rather than ANTI-USA. Trump probably suspects Putin will gain a degree of respect for the U.S. once Trump is in office. He is just as likely to treat Putin like an enemy if he significantly screws with the U.S. AFTER Trump takes office.
