Quote from m22au:

Stockmarket screener for non-US stocks:

keywords in case I forget this post:
stock screener UK stocks Japan stocks European stocks

I am interested in finding highly-indebted companies that mine / produce commodities. These may be good short candidates if various commodity prices do not recover from recent declines.

The above screener may help.

MTL is one such company that looks interesting.

I just discovered TWGP.

An interesting stock to say the least. I doubt it will stay anywhere close to $6.91 after Friday 11 October.

"Tower Group International, Ltd. (TWGP) announced today that it plans to release its second quarter 2013 financial results during the week of October 7, 2013."

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/tower-group-international-ltd-provides-203000642.html

My guess is that it will (still) go much lower.

However there is a chance that things aren't as bad as imagined, and that the stock can double to $13.82, which is still below tangible book value.

I have no position as yet.

Update: TWGP received a takeover offer worth $3 a share in cash on 6 January.

The value of negative reports:
www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/20...-of-short-selling-as-gowex-enters-bankruptcy/

Maybe instead of shouting "market abuse", investors and regulators should listen to authors of reports that are negative about companies:

"Probe Gotham? Er, no. Gowex is bust"
http://ftalphaville.ft.com/2014/07/06/1893582/probe-gotham-er-no-gowex-is-bust/

"Gowex Trading Suspended as Regulator Probes Gotham Report"

"Yup six brokers all loved the stock (including Singer N+1 from London). So when folks tell you a stock must be a buy because respected brokers say so just think of Gowex."

"The auditors signed off on four years of accounts which the CEO now says were all concocted. So when supporters say a company must be okay because its auditors say so just think of Gowex."

"But those who dismiss Gotham as bent no-hopers might want to think again. When Gotham produces a detailed report it does so because it researches its subject in a way that – as Gowex shows – institutional brokers and investors simply do not."
