Looking to change jobs....here is my strategy

Look..volpunter. You offered some decent advice at the beginning of this thread but then you started throwing personal insults. But that is OK in your mind as you are just "being direct". If you want to be an asshole, that's fine with me. My feelings are not easily hurt, especially from some dude I have never met posting on an internet message board. As for what I have done:

- Currently reading Clean Code and Code Complete.
- Spoke with a recruiter today who has worked with several of my friends.
- Reached out to other friends in town to seek advice.
- Started outlining "knowledge gaps" that I need to focus on.

Feel free to continue to comment. I appreciate your interest in me and this thread.

awesome, so then why do you keep on comparing your salary with the one of your coworkers? Apparently you decided you want out and change companies. No need then to moan about your current work conditions or how you need to clean up after someone who is better paid. This should, by the way, not come as a surprise to you: If your boss even remotely sniffs out that you are about to jump ship you should expect to happen what happens to you right now.

We interviewed this guy for our team today (Senior position). The overall impression was he was solid but there was no Wow factor. The issue I had with him was he was not able to speak authoritatively on the stuff he was currently working on. As I prepare to sit on the other side of the table, one thing I am going to be sure I am able to do is to discuss in depth each technology that makes up the systems our team works on, why those technologies were chosen, what are some alternatives that could have been used. Advantages/Disadvantages. What patterns are used. etc. That sort of discussion seems to be about half the interview.

Update to my current situation. I got a promotion to Senior Software Engineer and am moving to a new team in my company where I will be doing Node.js and Angular.js in addition to setting up automated builds/deployments to AWS. It is a new team in the company and I will be working with very current technology so I am good to go for now.
