Listen carefully ladies

Quote from RCG Trader:

Considering I was alive and able to vote in 1985. Yes, Reagan was a joke. The GOP was derided as picking an actor for their nominee. When he won, the mainstream GOP did not take him seriously, as he was an actor, and did not have the right blood lines. Look it up, it is all there. Reaganomics was a joke. Reagan, like Clinton, was not recognized until well after he left office.

You want popular proof?

Don Henley( Eagles) wrote a song called End of the Innocence. Listen carefully young padawan. I will not condescend to post the lyrics, but it is only one line. You will get it. Reagan was a hated man when he was in office.

A don henley song does not prove Reagan was a joke just as Matt Damen criticizing Obama doesn't make him a joke

The GOP was united behind Reagan. As early as 76 he won Texas and California primaries against a sitting republican president,The GOP knew they had a shot at taking California with Reagan as their man.Nobody from the 2012 GOP field brings to the table what Reagan did

Quote from Maverick74:

Keep telling that to yourself huckleberry. Whatever gets you through the day. I've never seen approval ratings hold any significant correlation to elections.

I know that thinking Obama is a one term president help you make it through the day,but prepare yourself for disappointment

It is a reflection of the time. Music and film are relections of the time. This particular piece was very popular, it was not a sound byte.

Reagan won because of Carter, who had, let just say, made some critical errors. When Reagan got in, half the GOP turned on him. He lost both houses at the midterm of term one. Reagan had as much crap talked about him as Lincoln did. No one ever took Reagan seriously. He did not become an icon until after Clinton left, and the GOP was stuck with Bush the Younger.

Quote from AK Forty Seven:

I'm not pissed at all,I believe unemployment will be around 9 % at election time

We don't have those jobs now and Obama support stays at 45 % approval , 70-80 % favorability, and 60 % odds at re election so there is no reason to think 9% unemployment makes him toast

Here you go kid.

Let's see here. GHB was at 58% and lost! Your boy Carter was at 50%...got killed! And your well respected Reagan in 1984...was at 37%!!!! Before he swept 49 out of the 50 states in the 2004 election.

If Hilary,Bloomberg,Dean etc runs 3rd party in 2012 and The GOP as a moderately strong candidate I will change my pick on who wins in 2012

If Obama like Carter has high interest rates, terrorist holding Americans hostage played out on TV ,a primary against Hilary ,Dean etc,not only high gas prices but uncertainty if gas will be available etc I will change my 2012 prediction

Obama and Reagan are more similar then they are different. Both came into office with bad economies, both seen as strong on defense, both had large stock market gains, both were charming ,charismatic and connected with voters, both were well liked on a personal level, unemployment went to 10.4 % I believe under Reagan and 10 % under Obama ,Reagan approvals dropped to 37 % and Obama's dropped to 40 ,most people blamed Carter for the economy, most people blame Bush for the current economy etc

Keep running around the issue. You must be really pissed because you know the jobs are not coming back. And without those jobs, Obama is toast.

Another huge difference between Obama's,GHB and Carter economies that you seem to overlook is the fact that GHB and Carter were seen as having caused the bad economies,Obama and Reagan were not

I will surely get back to you by bumping this thread in 2012 when Obama is re elected with 7.5 % + unemployment

Reagan was a hated man when he was in office.
I do recall the liberals shitting bricks over him.
Although if he was so universally hated, how did he win a second term?
