We can't let people have WMDs, because they're not needed for self defense, and what if an accident happens? Yeah, like the accident where a crazy person gets one.

We have already had this argument. Cocaine has been illegal since early 1900's. Has the supply shrunk? In general, has the demand diminished significantly?

If manufacturing of firearms was banned in US and there was a demand for them, you don't think they will produce them south of the border?

If there is a demand, someone will supply it.
 
are you sure it is me who misses the point here? Then why can you not buy a missile to "defend yourself against oppressive government". Isn't that what the armed forces are for?

If the oppressing government (including our own) has battle rifles and the public has only hand guns, the public is effectively disarmed. There is no "half-way" ground. Either we have the right and capability to defend our freedoms or we don't.

Guns are still being manufactured in places other than Australia. What's their mass shooting rate since the ban?
 
sure if that is realistic and can be financed, why not. See, this is the problem that most conservatives have boxed themselves into. They are all for grand solutions but hey, government should stay lean and meek, lower taxes,...and, and and. Sure everyone is for lower taxes. But at some points the programs that you overall seem to be supportive of need to be financed. So, I am all excited for your suggestions, I hope you and your side will be around when it comes to pay the bill as well.

Wouldn't a discussion on gun violence look a lot different if a large percentage of criminals have been disarmed?
