Quote from gwb-trading:
Nearly all of these shootings involve someone who is mentally ill.
What is the proper steps for the U.S. to take in order to stop these situations?
My only personal experience with the mentally ill was my ex wife.
In her case? I've recommended for years a GSW to the head.
1) We're never ever going to completely eliminate our problem of mentally ill acquiring firearms, or any other weapon for that matter.
2)BUT I'm of the opinion we can improve our situation.
A single easily accessible nationwide database of the known mentally ill would be a great start. Of course people are going to have to be "profiled" and the idiots opposing that. Are the same ones screaming for more of the same of what we're already doing. Expecting a different result THIS time.
If we can incarcerate people for minor drug offenses I don't know why we can't institutionalize the worst of the known mentally ill.
Enforcing the existing 22,000 federal state and local gun laws we already have would make some positive difference.
Repealing all these ridiculous "gun free zones" so that properly licensed individuals who carry are armed when and where these threats emerge. Thereby at least potentially reducing some of the damage. As opposed to only the crazy guys being armed. Law enforcement cannot and will not ever be able to be every where all the time. The citizenry is.
I'm sure there are many more worthy ideas from people more familiar with metal illness than I am.
