As to the numbers, it's worth knowing who was in combat and who was a file clerk back home.

In any case, it's not just character. When kids were drafted, along with the risks they learned how to read, they learned new skills (many of them marketable), they became fit, learned self-discipline, and there were outstanding education benefits through the GI Bill. There is also the fact that nearly every family had someone in the military or knew someone who did. The war was a part of one's life. Nowadays nearly everyone is disconnected from it and, for the most part, don't really care whether we spend the rest of our lives at war or not. And so it goes on. And on.

Man you guys are brutal. For my last post on this subject I'll just say the words coward and hero are thrown around rather loosely. You're not a coward just because you don't want to fight, and you're not a hero just because you do. As to the two people that this thread is all about, Chris Kyle is no coward and having limited knowledge of his combat activity I don't know if he was some kind of hero. It's obvious he was very well trained and extremely skilled as a combat sniper. Michael Moore is no coward, he's just an ingrate quick to malign the United States, but first in line at the great American buffet of fame and fortune.
Upon my return to the states me and my buddy Bennie were walking towards a limo type bus at the airport proudly wearing our uniforms. Some asshole riding shotgun with his buddies drove by and said, hey Jarhead, Fuck You, as he threw a beer bottle at us narrowly missing our heads. Bennie and I looked at each other and he said to me, you think we'd get a Purple Heart for getting hit in the head with a beer bottle? We laughed. What else could we do? America hated us. It was different then than now, thankfully. This issue reminded my of when nearly an entire country hated a man in uniform. It was an ugly time and we should have no desire to go back to it. These men and women doing the dirty work deserve better than having to suffer the opinions of the ingrates. Moore and his ilk should show some respect for christs sake, and if not that just make your money, feast at the table and STFU.
