Just a glimpse into what will happen in dark times...

Quote from gwb-trading:

Some people ask why Walmart did not stop EBT sales in the same way other stores did when the computer glitch occurred.

The truth is that Walmart does not really care - the store is still going to be paid by the government for the food that went out its doors. Walmart does not really care if the government goes after the cards holders or not for compensation for the fraud.

This only goes to show that Walmart supports abusing government programs for their own profit, but other stores have integrity.

Some liberals have tried to frame this as being that Walmart cares about giving people the food they need and other stores do not. What an absurd assertion!

Walmart managers had to know that when people were at checkout over and over again with 10 carts of food that they were well over the EBT $200 or so per month limit. This is not about other stores denying people of the food they need - it is about other stores having the integrity to not allow theft & fraud from the government - an activity that Walmart is happy to allow if it pads their corporate pocket with profits.

Summer in tx is awful, too.

Wyoming is a no state tax state and probably a good place to be if the shtf.

I've considered Wyoming. I've got family in CO an hour and fifteen minutes from where I've been looking at properties, and lived-in homes. WY is actually a good choice IMO.

Can't vouch for CO... we've been Californicated by the Leftists.

:(

I know... I've found several places there I'm interested in, but I'm quite concerned about the political environment with the loon Californians taking that great state by storm the last decade.

Beautiful state
Dry vs wicked humidity I live in now
Snow I'm used to driving in is no problem at all
Businesses there do well, as do incomes
I could live where no one comes around unless they're up to no good, or called me earlier. Lol!

I'm just concerned about what kind of anti freedom STATE laws could be enacted there considering the loon Californians moving there by drones...

Quote from Tsing Tao:

Great for wind power - keeps you off the grid.

The place I am building is 4000 feet up, on one of the peaks that catches the wind coming from TN. The house is sheltered by the mountain, but I'm going to put a nice wind turbine (15k) right in the path of the wind.

I LOVE Tennessee. Just hope you can get there before the shtf...

Walmart is the epitome of a double edged sword...

I grew up in southeast TN. I recently saw where it is the most corrupt state in the union though.

No kidding, I missed that. More corrupt than Louisiana, Illinois, Maryland, NJ, Florida etc? Hard to believe.

For some reason, I want to be near the ocean, although I'm not a boater, saltwater fisherman, diver, etc.

If I wanted a bolt hole, I think I would pick the Outer Banks of NC. You can catch enough fish to live on if it comes to that.

Yes, but anyone on the Outer Banks would have significant issues surviving without government support and being on the grid.

The immediate problem would be fresh water - the Outer Banks has a very limited supply without it being piped in from the mainland. The second problem is that storms/flooding destroy everything at least once per year including Highway 17. If you are expecting stable housing to reside in and roadways to get around on - well then you will need to repair it yourself once per year. The third problem will be electricity - Well I will live off the grid you say with solar. Those solar panels will not last a year in the Outer Banks.

The Outer Banks are a barrier island. It is stupid that North Carolina heavily built on these barrier islands (including the beach islands towards the south). They are basically sand bars that continually shift every year - anything built on them is doomed within 40 years or so due to erosion and shifting sand.

The state of North Carolina spends a huge amount of money each year to support infrastructure on the Outer Banks. Even accounting for tourism there is never adequate payback on this investment.
