Jokes 2

John McCain and Barack Obama somehow ended up at the same barbershop.
As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken.
The barbers were even afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn
to politics.
As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Obama in his chair
reached for the after shave.
Obama was quick to stop him saying, "No thanks, my wife Michelle will smell
that and think I've been in a whorehouse,"The second barber turned to McCain and said, "How about you?" McCain replied, "Go ahead, my wife doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like."

One bunch = 1, and hence is, or
Bees = many, and hence are

The entire graduating class of students is (or are) going to the beach after commencement.

(and I never knew why they call the very end, the commencement)

While we are on the subject.

2+2 is 5

2+2 are 5

2+2 makes 5

Never been able to figure this one out.

The entire graduating class of students is going to the beach after commencement.

Who or what is "going to the beach"?

A class (singular tense noun)

Class is the noun. Therefore (is) is in the singular tense.

If the sentence were "All students are going to the beach" then we would ask "who is going to the beach?" and the answer would be "students" (plural) and as such, we would use a plural form (are).

Make sense?
