Yes, we know there was 1000 Russian trolls because of the 1000 handles online that A). Spoke broken english. And B.) Supported Trump.
Your logic is immpeccable.
So now we know that a combination of trolls and THE COMEY LETTER, influenced the election.
Now we just need to know who influenced it more, Comey, or the 1000 trolls.
Next we need to know if the 1000 trolls were illegal, and disqualify the Trump presidency.

After that, we need to know if 1000 Russian trolls can be characterized as hacking into American voting machines.

Then if that is the main investgation, they are using the cover of Russian electoral influence as the justification. The justification, for public consumption, came first, the private investigation came second.
