Earnest called Comey “a man of integrity” and a “man of good character” but acknowledged that “he’s in a tough spot” when it comes to the Clinton email probe.

“I’ll neither defend nor criticize what Director Comey has decided to communicate to the public about this investigation,” he added.

No he did not. And the pressure you mention is non-existent, Obama had nothing to do with Comey's letter.

that is backing comey... regardless of what stance earnest spoke of regarding emails. besides considering he is a dem who wants Hillary. neither defend nor criticize what Comey decided to communicate is itself a very strong counter to the crazy dems on this subject like the mass media Reid and Clinton.

As Trey Gowdy pointed out, it would be hypocritical if Obama were to come out against Comey, as Obama is a President out campaigning for a candidate. How does that not violate the same Hatch Act?

Second, I hear Obama is secretly miffed with Comey. So this is a public face, kind of like Hillary has two faces.

Strategically, it is the best public face to wear at this time, no matter what he feels about Comey. Comey is, after all, investigating something that could lead to some kind of actions against Obama, Obama having emailed to a known non-gov server, and/or having known about it, covered it up.

Meanwhile, the Journal’s Devlin Barrett broke the news Sunday that senior Justice officials and FBI officials disagreed over how aggressively to pursue the Clinton Foundation for financial fraud and influence peddling.

FBI field agents—in New York, Los Angeles, Washington and Little Rock, Arkansas—wanted to pursue subpoenas and empanel a grand jury. Senior officials at Justice, likely political appointees, refused to give the FBI agents permission. But the agents continued to investigate under their current authorities, even after Justice denied their request to read the Clinton-related emails that the national-security team had uncovered.

In August a “very pissed off” Justice official dressed down Andrew McCabe, the bureau’s second-in-command who oversaw the Clinton email investigation, for looking at the Clinton Foundation in an election year. According to the Journal story, Mr. McCabe replied, “Are you telling me that I need to shut down a validly predicated investigation?” The official said no, but the message down the FBI chain of command was to “stand down.”

I don't think Comey is intentionally trying to influence voters but he is none the less. That is against procedure. Intent does not matter just as it didn't and doesn't matter in the Clinton email/server investigation. Both Comey and Clinton are in violation of laws and standard procedures. Both need to step down. Comey is trying to appease a now near mutiny in the ranks of the FBI which is the result of his massive screw up this past summer. He bent to obvious political pressure and the corrupt Justice department. No way this ends well for him, Clinton, or the country.
